60% was just a guideline you can make whatever adjustments you need to get the look you want.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

I have tried to understand the categories settings, and am puzzled about this one:

Layout Settings->Categories - Tabs Menu ON/OFF = 1 (to show categories tabs)

It doesn't matter whether I set this to on or off. Is it somehow inactivated in this template?

Thanks.

Just a rookie's input here, but the setting you referred to above only turns off the text tabs across the top of the page (above the breadcrumbs).

If you want to have the Categories box and the tabs for Musical Solutions, Sheet Music, etc not show:
Tools ->Layout Boxes Controller-> sideboxes/categories.php,edit, change Left/Right column status to "OFF"

Yes, by default The top horizontal category navigation, and the footer IP address are set to display none.

open includes/templates/zencart_zen/css/stylesheet.css

find the following declarations

#navCatTabsWrapper, #siteinfoIP {
display:none;
}
/*#navCatTabsWrapper {
	margin: 0em;
	padding: 0 0.2em;
	background-color: transparent;
	font-weight: bold;
	color: #000;
	height: 1%;
	vertical-align: middle;
	font-size: 1em;
}*/

and replace them with:

#siteinfoIP {
display:none;
}
/*#navCatTabsWrapper {
display:none;
}*/
#navCatTabsWrapper {
	margin: 0em;
	padding: 0 0.2em;
	background-color: transparent;
	font-weight: bold;
	color: #000;
	height: 1%;
	vertical-align: middle;
	font-size: 1em;
}

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Thanks all for the responses. It is so nice to be made aware of other aspects of this template that I had not noticed.

Another puzzle: I tried out a wide banner but the only placement possibility seems to be below the footer.

Would there be a way to put a wide banner in the space just below the header? (I know, it clutters the nice Zen openness.) (It seems I am being nudged in the direction of clutter which I am hoping to escape maybe by monochrome colors as best I can.)

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Or, I'm not sure if it is a banner I need. Maybe it is some sort of filler that conveys something about my site. I meant to look for code before asking, but maybe this question actually goes with my banners question. Thanks.

admin -> configuration -> layout settings -> Banner Display Groups - Header Position 3

define your banner (admin -> tools -> banner manager) then add the banner group to the setting described above.

Since you're not using the zencart_zen template, I'm not sure why you've posted this question in this support thread.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

I have been asked to change the type on my buttons to match my products, which I do know how to do in Paint, but I became very aware of how important the buttons you created are to the calm, orderly, consistent feeling of this template. I really appreciate that aspect of your design.

I have been advised to add "human interest" pictures, and would like to try a picture in the header where I have turned off the "search" box.

The following yields a blank page on my test WAMP Localhost site:

  1. I placed an image placed the following code just over the search code, also given here, in includes/languages/english/zencart_zen/header.php

[QUOTE]//added defines for header alt and text for right header picture overlay with search
box inactivated
define(HEADER2_ALT_TEXT', 'Be there. . .at your pitch and tempo.');
define('HEADER2_WIDTH, '207');
define('HEADER2_HEIGHT', '79');
define('HEADER2_IMAGE', 'jenn-baroque207-79.JPG');

// header Search Button/Box Search Button
define('HEADER_SEARCH_BUTTON','Search');
define('HEADER_SEARCH_DEFAULT_TEXT','Enter search keywords here');
?>/QUOTE]

  1. I copied the logo code and inserted it between the logo code and the nav_main_search in includes/templates/zencart_zen/css/stylesheet.css and floated it right:

[QUOTE]#logoWrapper {
position: relative;
height:75px;
top: 0;
left:0;
}
#logo {
float: left;
}
#header2Wrapper {
position: relative;
height:79px;
top: 0;
left:0;
}
#header2 {
float: right;
}

#navMainSearch {/QUOTE]

  1. I placed my image jenn_baroque209-79.jpg in includes/templates/zencart_zen/images

So far, no change took place in my header.

  1. I placed the following new div in includes/templates/zencart_zen/common/tpl_header.php

[QUOTE]<!--bof-branding display-->

<div id="logoWrapper"> <div id="navMainSearch"><?php require(DIR_WS_MODULES . 'sideboxes/search_header.php'); ?></div>
<div id="logo"><?php echo '<a href="' . HTTP_SERVER . DIR_WS_CATALOG . '">' . zen_image($template->get_template_dir(HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE, DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'images'). '/' . HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE, HEADER_ALT_TEXT, HEADER_LOGO_WIDTH, HEADER_LOGO_HEIGHT) . '</a>'; ?></div>

<div id="header2"><?php echo '<a href="' . HTTP_SERVER . DIR_WS_CATALOG . '">' . zen_image($template->get_template_dir(HEADER2_IMAGE, DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'images'). '/' . HEADER2_IMAGE, HEADER2_ALT_TEXT, HEADER2_WIDTH, HEADER2_HEIGHT) . '</a>'; ?></div>
/QUOTE]

This change caused my Zencart home page to go completely blank.

Am I on the right track? It is just an experiment, and the original files are saved as filenameorig.php; but I have been thinking of trying it for some time.

Is the problem perhaps that I am taking space that belongs to the search box in the header? I do not need the search box as I have the google search just below it, and my site works best with advanced search which is prominent on my page. However, I am reluctant to remove that top right search box completely, as maybe things will change in the future and I will want to turn it on in Admin. However, if I need to remove it, I will still have the original file as a backup.

I believe there are no typos as mainly copied and pasted, and I tried to doublecheck for that and doublechecked that the files were renamed properly for this test.

I think it is important to sort out how to place something in the right header, as it has been suggested to me that I alternatively place contact information in the header, although I feel this is redundant to the contact button. I'm not sure that is necessary, but would like to confirm how to do that, as it seems the same process as adding an image to the header right.

I have been advised also to put credit card icons in the header, and at the moment they are in the center. I did try to put paragraph codes around them to make 2 groups, but they remained in a single line. They do show up in the text area of the header. However, it seems odd to put them in between the Logo command and the measurements of the logo, where they fall.

Thanks for any input.

define('HEADER2_WIDTH, '207');
define('HEADER2_HEIGHT', '79');

Make the highlighted change in this define statement:

define('HEADER2_ALT_TEXT', 'Be there. . .at your pitch and tempo.');

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Thanks, Clyde. There was also an apostrophe missing on the line below the one you quoted, after WIDTH. Neither change brought back the test WAMP site from the blank page, though.

I tried changing where I had HEADER_xxx to the format HEADER_HEADER2_xxx, which more closely follows the HEADER_LOGO_xxx format, and I took out the ALT text because there was no parallel structure to follow for that. None of these attempts to make the files exactly parallel gave me a visible page.

I guess I will restore the original files again and come back to this latter if I ever gain more insight into how this works. I still wonder if it has to do with the search box being there, but at the moment I do not have the stamina to try removing that for testing.

Thanks for the buttons resource, also.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Hi. I have played around with the three php files mentioned above. At the moment, I am seeing my Alt text in the upper right, and my credit card images which I put in the text of the header (tagline) have suddenly made 2 narrow rows instead of one long row. This tells me that maybe my image is trespassing on the header text (tagline) space. Changing the "#taglineWrapper top to 2px in the includes->templates->zencart_zen->css/stylesheet.css did not raise these credit card images, oddly.

So, at least I am seeing changes in lieu of a blank screen, and am continuing to try different code.

In the browser toolbar under View->Page Source, I see the following:

[QUOTE]<!--bof-branding display-->

<div id="logoWrapper"> <div id="navMainSearch"></div>
<div id="logo"><a href="http://localhost/zencart/"><img src="includes/templates/zencart_zen/images/logo_CDnote_final.jpg" alt="At MusicStudioStore.com find play-along sheet music with CDs and pitch- and time-stretch equipment." title=" At MusicStudioStore.com find play-along sheet music with CDs and pitch- and time-stretch equipment. " width="334" height="71" /></a></div>

<div id="header2"><a href="http://localhost/zencart/"><img src="includes/templates/template_default/images/header2_jenn-baroque207-79.jpg" alt="Be there. . .at your own pitch and tempo." title=" Be there. . .at your own pitch and tempo. " width="207" height="79" /></a></div>

<div id="taglineWrapper">

/QUOTE]

If it were calling the zencart_zen images it would find my image. However, it is calling the template_default images file.

So, my question at this time is: Is the failure seen in "view page source" to call the zencart_zen template for the image a clue to anything in particular?

Thanks for any responses.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde, I have solved the picture-in-header floating right problem by just having faith in what you taught, that is, to look for the small things. I just kept scrutinizing for obvious errors like the missing apostrophe, and relied on the fact that you seemed to be saying I had found the right files to tinker with.

My successful code evolved by checks, comparisons, and rechecks with a fresh eye after time away from the screen.

And as to my latest question above, the answer to why the view->page source was looking in the template_default is that I had misnamed my image, one of the first things you taught me to look for when I was just starting out with this template.

Here is the successful code:

  1. includes/languages/english/zencart_zen/header.php

[QUOTE]define('HEADER_LOGO_WIDTH', '334');
define('HEADER_LOGO_HEIGHT', '71');
define('HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE', 'logo_name.jpg');

//added defines for header2 right alt and picture overlay with search box inactivated
define('HEADER_HEADER2_ALT_TEXT', 'Be there. . .at your own pitch and tempo.');
define('HEADER_HEADER2_WIDTH', '242');
define('HEADER_HEADER2_HEIGHT', '71');
define('HEADER_HEADER2_IMAGE', 'header2_name.jpg');
/QUOTE]

  1. includes/templates/zencart.zen/css/stylesheet.css

[QUOTE]#logoWrapper {
position: relative;
height:75px;
top: 0;
left:0;
}
#logo {
float: left;
}
#header2 {
float: right;
}

#navMainSearch {
/QUOTE]

  1. includes/templates/zencart_zen/common/tpl_header.php

[QUOTE]<!--bof-branding display-->

<div id="logoWrapper"> <div id="navMainSearch"><?php require(DIR_WS_MODULES . 'sideboxes/search_header.php'); ?></div>
<div id="logo"><?php echo '<a href="' . HTTP_SERVER . DIR_WS_CATALOG . '">' . zen_image($template->get_template_dir(HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE, DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'images'). '/' . HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE, HEADER_ALT_TEXT, HEADER_LOGO_WIDTH, HEADER_LOGO_HEIGHT) . '</a>'; ?></div>

<div id="header2"><?php echo '<a href="' . HTTP_SERVER . DIR_WS_CATALOG . '">' . zen_image($template->get_template_dir(HEADER_HEADER2_IMAGE, DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'images'). '/' . HEADER_HEADER2_IMAGE, HEADER_HEADER2_ALT_TEXT, HEADER_HEADER2_WIDTH, HEADER_HEADER2_HEIGHT) . '</a>'; ?></div>
/QUOTE]

Also, I don't know if it made a difference but I changed dashes in my image name to underscores, just before the whole scheme worked, but mainly, that was in the process of making sure the name of the image matched the name in the header.

I am amazed at how the mind sees things when one comes back after having thought things through and looked at how the files fit together. I don't really understand code, but it still makes sense logically.

By this weekend, I should have these changes online, for a while at least, at
http://www.riverfrontsouth.com
Thanks for this template and for your support.

Hello, i have a question about this template. Can i use CJ Loader with this template? i have installed it and checked it 5 times, but when i am replacing the original html_header.php from zencart_zen (to which i have not done any modifications) with the html_header from the CJ Loader install, which is very small:
