can we "notice" when things are done?

I don't know how else to phrase that!

I'm finishing up a site right now, and the client is trying to get me to figure out a way to implement her "best seller" on the online cart. She's a photographer, and has has well over 250 images in her products on the site right now (soon to go live).

Right now, it's set up so that every image can be priced by attribute - you can buy a 5"x7" image, an 8"x10" image, or the image as a single greeting card with an envelope. You make your choice, add it to the cart, and there you go.

She also has 4 sets of pre-selected images that are sold as 10 greeting cards in a box.

What she would like to do is have the end user be able to "create their own set" of greeting cards. They should be able to peruse through the site and select 10 (of the over 250) images to be placed on 10 different greeting cards.

I attempted to use the "wishlist" thing, thinking that maybe we change it to "favorites" and have the end user add images they like to their "favorites" list - then at the end they could choose 10 of them and "create their own set". Unfortunately the wishlist thing doesn't work with attributes - and all I really wanted was the image added - not the product itself - but we couldn't figure out how to get that going.

So now she's wanting to know if it's possible for the end user to select 10 of the individual greeting cards, and when they go to checkout, if the ZenCart would somehow "know" that - "hey, you've got 10 greeting cards here, if you make it a set, then it'll be cheaper on you."

She was thinking maybe there would be some sort of "call for pricing" notification we could enable - but I think it would be better if, somehow, ZenCart could "notice" that 10 cards were chosen, and you can make a set, and ZenCart could ask "would you like to combine these into a set?" and if the end user chooses "yes", then it would convert it to a "create-your-own" set kind of thing.

Man, I hope all that made sense!

Anyway, would anyone know if there's something like this that would work? Believe me, we aren't married to this idea - if anyone has any better (and more workable) solutions, that'd be great, too! But if this can be done, can someone point me in the right direction, please?

I don't have a solution for you but perhaps a thought process. Do you think that you can use notifications for this feature?

Have I thanked you yet today? I LOVE ZEN!

Re: can we "notice" when things are done?

Okay - the Quantity Discounts thing worked nicely. However, I'm running into a slight issue - it only works if you choose one product and buy 10 of that one product.

Is there any way (aside from the other thing you mentioned, swguy) for ZenCart to recognize the attribute, even when it's spread across multiple products?

The way it is now, if you buy 10 pictures of a tower, then you get the discount. However, if you buy 8 pictures of a tower, and 2 pictures of a bird, you don't get the discount.

How can you make the mixed products get the discount? Is it even possible?

Quantity Discounts allows you to mix and match. Use "Discount by Total Items in Cart."

Doodlebee,

Did swguy's Quantity Discounts work for you? I couldn't get it to work out of the box to solve my challenge.

My challenge:

Any photo can be made into a card. The cards use a 4x6 photo on a 5x7 card. The card stock is bright white and is embossed on the outside edges to form a "frame". The card is blank inside. Each card comes with its own white envelope. The cards are $3.00 each or 6 for $15.00. There will a photo that shows the embossing of the card. The 6 cards that are ordered can be of the same photo or a mixture of photos.

I tried:

  1. Admin login->catalog->Attributes Controler->Product->Attribute->edit---> Attributes Qty Price Discount (1-5:0;6 -.5, etc. etc.)->Update for all of photographs. I could only get it to total each photo(gift card) in the basket not all photo(gift cards) in the basket and not other ie photos(11 x 14) in the basket.

  2. Quantity Discount works on Categories, Item and Cart but not attributes.

Following swguy's lead I am creating an "Attribute Discount" module. This module works the way I need.

You can buy any photograph with any attribute (Gift Card, 4 x6, 5 x 7,8 x 10,11 x 14,or 16 x 20) with any matting. When the guest'a cart contains purchases of 6,12,18,25, or 30 Gift Cards they will recieve a discount of ($3,$6,$9,$12, or $15).

Please help me and give it a try. I am trying to break it now.

The web site is: https://www.kaysmithphotos.com/zen-cart/index.php.

Sorry - I thought I had come back and said what happened with this.

No, it didn't work right out of the box. If I had been trying to do something else, it probably would have. But Scott there's a trooper, and I hired hom to alter the code. Didn't take long at all, and he's dirt cheap.

I'd say if you have the same issue, go hire him to edit the code for you. Seriously - he's cheaper than I am. (And I'm pretty cheap. Man, that could go so many ways! LOL) And no one knows the code better.

LOL apparently I should raise my rates!

Actually, I'm spending so much time working on UK stuff that I think I should
charge in Pounds Sterling. :)

Re: can we "notice" when things are done?

Thanks for the replies.

My Attribute Module works.

Thanks swguy for the model "discount" module.

I'd like others to try out the cart with this order "Attribute Module" installed.

If it passes user testing than I'll work on cleaning it up for general (free)distribution.
