Re: can you do this

I'm guessing you mean the shop status? Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I guess it could work. I really need 1 password that protects the whole store. Not something where the customer just has to login. Will have to rethink my plans. Thanks for your help.

It's not clear to me what you're trying to accomplish. Why do you want the shop password protected and why with only one password?

Re: can you do this

let me see if I can try and explain. With the products I create. I use a lot of different artisits who all have their own tou. I haven't thought this out all the way because I need to figure out if this is something that I want to do. But basically this would be an addition to my store, but it's own domain not a sub. I can not have the products directly on my main store or I would be breaking the tou of the artisits. I may just do what Kim said and just set it to where they have to login. Maybe I'm just overthinking this and I really just don't need to password protect it. Again I have to think out the whole thing. plus I may make it a purchased membership only store, I just have to think about it. It wouldn't be done for a few months but trying to figure it all out now. Thanks

Re: can you do this

Definitely sit down and give it some serious thought. It seems to me that it would be much better for each person to have an individual password. If you have one password for the entire store, the value of the password becomes moot because anyone can use it who knows what it is. There are pluses and minuses to the idea, but there are people who use ZC to create wholesale sites or allow users to get wholesale/distributor prices, so you may be able to use that as a model.

Re: can you do this

ok not exactly what I mean. I have been to some Non zen-cart stores, where it is protected but you once you enter the main password you can login to your acct and go shopping.

I'm still not quite getting the point of that. It seems to me having a main password that gets anyone and everyone into the site (second login or not) is like not having a password at all. Someone who knows the main password can just pass it on to anyone. I guess that's just me.

You could go for an option like Momokui suggested which would do the same thing. Some hosting services also have password control available from their webmaster panel (like CPanel), although I think those may not cover the main directory.

Re: can you do this

nevermind, my question has mainly been answered. Maybe if and when I get the site I will remember to come back here and show you and you will understand better. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Re: can you do this

Sounds like Apache Authentication would suit your needs. It uses 'htpasswd' as mentioned earlier by Momokui. You see it in action when accessing most Control Panels for a Hosting account.
