Product is there but doesn't show up

Hi all,

I'm trying to set up a show without the demo data so have to startup a few things.

I want to add a downloadable product and did the following:

• In option name manager I added the option Download
• In Value manager I added the value mp3 to the download option
• I created a category
• In that category I added a product of the type product_music
  I can see now that there is a category and in that category 1
  product is listed.
• In attributes controler I asigned the option Download and value
  mp3 to the mentioned product. I also added a file which resides
  in the directory download.

Now in the test environment (with the zen demo data installed) at this point the product shows up in the downloads manager. In my new site it does not show up there. I'm sure the name of the file is correc spelled.

In the new site when I want to assign a media collection to my product, after clicking on the button "assign to product" I can see the category but underneath that it states "No Products in this category".

What am I overlooking here? I'm pretty sure that I follow the wiki on this procedure.

Ok one question is solved.
I need to go to attributes controler and there I can see the product there I need to select edit, point to the file and press the update button.
It seems not enought to just edit everything the wat you want and then press Insert.

The product is now to be seen under downloads manager.

In media manager there still seems to be no product under the only category underwhich the product is when looking under Categories/products.

Ok second problem solved too.
Apperently I need to make a top category a subcategory underneath that and then a product in that sub category.
Now it is possible to assign the media collection to the product.

Sorry to bother.
Hope someone benefits of this little strugle.

Thanks for the info! I too, was having the same problem. To add to this, after setting up another category and including a sub-category within it, I went back to the media manager and found that if I selected my sub-category, the second drop-down box appeared. Once that happened, I was able to choose my original category (the one that did not work because it didn't have a sub-category) and the products in that category magically appeared.

Because I didn't really want to use sub-categories, I managed to get around this glitch by leaving the second set of categories in tact but disabling them (Catalog > Categories/Products > Green Status Button). Then, I went back, clicked on the sub-category that was disabled and again, the products in the original category showed up...viola.

Hopefully I've made this clear..category, sub-category, other category...gets confusing and I'm tired so, if anybody needs help understanding, I'll be happy to do so. :blink:
