More specials than products!?!

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I couldn't find anything when searching...

I've noticed that I have more specials than products on my site. When looking at the main admin page I'm told that I have 1252 specials, but only 1195 products.

I have deleted some products and imaging that the specials do not automatically get deleted.

Can someone confirm this and maybe advise me how to delete all these old specials (quickly and easily)?

admin > catalog > specials > red "X"

Doesn't this just 'disable' the special and not delete it?

Yes, I did not try it as I didn't want to delete mine... But at the right there is a "Delete" button that removes it

I know about the delete button, but my problem is working out which specials to delete!

Specials exists for products that I have deleted. It will take ages to manually cross-reference my remaining products with my specials! :S
