Changing Light Blue background on sides

Ok, I've learned to increase the size AND to center my logo  , but now I wanted to change the light blue areas on both sides to the color background that I use in my logo.

http://www.nothingbutromance.com/lilleypadgifts/testshop01/

it might be too much or too dark, but I would like to see what it looks like. I usually have it tiling on my auction pages, can I do this here and if so, where to I change the jpg file? (of .gif file if the case may be) ?

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Nevermind... I forget that I'm working on a wide screen monitor, so when I went to my Mom's old monitor, I saw that it was all too wide and the letters too big.

Can someone take a look and tell me what you think?

Thanks ~

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

I'm being told there is a problem with the LilleyPad Gifts text that is under the logo. Is anyone else seeing this text cut off?
Anyone know where I would edit that since I see it perfectly?

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Yes, the logo words are blended with the nav bar on top there. You can shut off the top nav bar though I have to look up again how to do it -- better yet, do a search in the Forum on how to turn off the nav bar.

If you want to leave that top Nav bar on, then I'd consider making the header wrapper taller to accommodate the logo. I think that can be done, too. This would be done in the stylesheet I believe.

I'm new here, just a couple weeks but I've tweaked my ZC quite a bit. Right now alot of the details to change this stuff are a blur in my mind so do a couple searches and to confirm the correct instructions.

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Thanks Cheryl,

Can you please check it again to see if its correct now? I was trying to put it back to the way it was when it "looked" right .

Thanks again!

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Yes, it looks aligned now! Good job. Oh, did you want to leave the Zen Cart! in the browser title on top? I noticed you have one of those cool icon things on the Firefox tab so I figure you probably would like it to say "Lilley Pad Gifts", too. :wink2: Maybe not though.

Oh, one other thing. Bottom of the side boxes seems wider than the top and is over the border edge. Does it show like that on your browser?

Nice work,

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Thanks Cheryl for checking!
Yes, I can't figure out the bottom of the boxes and why they don't match up. In the future I want to change the browser as well, just haven't gotten that far yet.
Any ideas on the boxes????

Ok, I just changed the Left Column Boxes .... it looks a little messy at this point, but the words are on the same line instead of wrapping (the Catagory titles).
What does it look like to you?

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Oh yeah! That looks fabulous!

Is it easy to curve the box edges? I asked a few days ago and haven't had a chance to explore it more. Right now I'm looking for a better background image as the one I just uploaded is way too busy but I know what I want now.

Good job.

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

the curves came with the template that I choose...so not sure if its easy from scratch or not...sorry

It turned out to be easy to make the adjustment tho thru admin/layout settings.
I scooted the boxes a little bit away from the outer edge as well. Hope it looks ok on other browsers.

Thanks again for checking it out for me.

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Hey, no problem.

I was just thinkin' (always dangerous. :D) Anyway, you may be able to widen the boxes and unless the category title is super long, it would stop the words from wrapping, if that is what you want. The adjustment is in the Layout Settings area.

Well, that's what I was thinking too (and yes, its VERY dangerous :wink2: ).
BUT, when I edit the size, that's when the top and bottom mess up.
What's REALLY odd to me (and I'm sure there's a simple reason for it that my mind doesn't understand yet :sleepy: ).... my screen is a wide panel and my Mom's is the old clunker flat screen. On HER computer, the titles run across in the same line, no problem, but on mine...with more size to it.... the Salt & Pepper Shakers is on 2 lines. I would think, in my little pea brain, that it would be the other way around since her montior is smaller, it would wordwrap, mine is larger, it would NOT wrap.

Oh well, as long as it looks good on most monitors, then I'm happy :D .

Now...about that browser title.... I gotta do more searching I think

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

I think it's in the meta_tags file in your template. Check to see though cuz it's been several days and hundreds of tweakings since I did mine. Maybe search the Forum for meta_tags; might be the quickest way to confirm it.

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

I think I did it

Now my problem is with weights because I usually onlu use ounces.
AND I'm not good enough in math to know the decimal way of breaking it down

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

I understand; I had the same conversion issue.

Here's what I did:

Divide 16 by the ounces.
e.g., 16 divided by 4.5 = 3.5

Then take that, and divide by 10 = .35 this goes in the weight

Remember that 8 ounces will be .5 (i.e., half a pound). I used this to help guide my calculation since I don't use this kind of math very often and am out of practice.

Good luck,

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Ok, I MUST be crazy, but I can't get the same results.....

when I take 4.5 divided by 16... I get 0.28125

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Do it the other away. In your calculator, key in 16, then the division sign, then the ounces.

I do understand..... Drives me nuts... :shocking:

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

now if I take 16 divided by 4.5, THEN I get .355555555555555

BUT if I take 16 divided by 8, I get 2 not .50

oh gosh, I was hoping to get this site done before PMS took over:unsure:

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

just in a side note, I just posted a question about USPS and setting it up in case you know anything about that issue as well....

SIGH I'll be lucky to get this up and running by Christmas at the rate I'm working!

Re: Changing Light Blue background on sides

Correct. Then you need to convert to decimals, i.e., 10s.

Half of anything in 10ths will be .5. The result of 2 must be converted to 10ths... geez, girl friend, this way much math for me.

Divide 8 by 16 gives you the .5. Just reverse the way you put the #s in the calculator. (dang, I hated this in school cuz I usually do it backwards, first).

Take the smaller number which is ounces, and divide by 16. That will give you the percentage. So the math whiz husband tells me.

He's gonna be tough to live with tonight....
