How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

kuroi:

Ah, I think I see what you're saying. The "bug" would be that setting the salutation to "true" turns it off.

Sorry, but I've just tested it on three different sites and in each case the salutation switch worked exactly as it should - "true" means on and "false" turns it off, and creating an account with it off worked fine.

I was looking in the account creation and account info areas. If you're seeing this somewhere else, could you tell us where. Also, information about the Zen Cart version, your template, the mods you're using and a link to your site would be helpful.

Finally, does this still happen if you switch back to the classic template?

Thanks much for getting back to me kuroi. I am using version Zen Cart 1.3.8a
Patch: 1::
Database Patch Level: 1.3.8

Using simple_zen_template_2-1 which I'm assuming is in my custom template folder. I don't know how to be sure what mods I've installed....but I know I've attempted to upload 2. On my computer I have a folder called fec and one called easy_signup. I recently TRIED to figure out how to activate/install Fast and Easy Checkout because I don' want customer to have to create a password...but I've given up. Now have a NEW problem since I made the password Not required...a visitor can fly through without creating one....but can NEVER SHOP my store again...since they would be met with the message basically saying: We already have this email address...please use a different one...you can update your email address in your account." Problem is.....they don't have an account since they didn't create a password on their 1st shopping visit.

My friend needs an income so badly and I'm so close to getting her store open....but can't.

Please see the site by clicking here. I want to thank you for reading my last post carefully and realizing what I was calling a "bug". Oh to answer your last question...when I temporarily deleted my tpl_modules_create_account.php in MY TEMPLATE folder....the Mr. and Ms. DID disappear! But...still leaves the password prob for future orders.

Then get your priorities right...

Would you delay the opening of a brick's 'n mortar store just because your wife disagreed on the type of chairs you were to use in the shop's admin office?

Get the store operational START SELLING STUFF - goodness... I have taken a zencart store from zero to taking orders in just under 72 hours.

Sure... it's not the world's greatest design, but within 3 days it was making money.

If the "Mr, Mrs, Ms conundrum" is delaying the start of your business, then I think you need to re-examine your business prowess...

Just get the thing operational...

Create a sub-folder on the domain and install a test ZC in there. Use that as your Dev site if you want to resolve silly issues like Ms and Mr...

Well good for you! I never said opening store was delayed due to the Mr. Ms. thing....now that would be STUPID I agree.

It's due to what I mentioned in the above post...meaning the password issue....and of course the problem (I didn't mention) of having the welcome email From address coming across as jibberish. So that's like trying to open a brick & mortar store with the padlock still on it from the previous owner.

IMO you are mired down in trying to do fixes and hacks that WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT prevent folks from shopping.. IF the NUMBER ONE priority is to get Zen Cart operational, then the path is simple:

  1. Install Zen Cart -- DO NOT SPEND ANY TIME IMMEDIATELY worrying about look and feel. Remember your PRIORITY is to get the store operational. To that end if you don't want to use the Classic template as your temporary template, I suggest using "Barebones". It's clean, simple and will work FINE for RIGHT NOW while you work on developing the look and feel you want after you get the site OPERATIONAL
  2. Add your products and categories
  3. Select and setup your shipping and payment modules
  4. Make sure you remove/edit all the temporary text from the default defined pages.
  5. Open the doors for business
If the priority is to get the shop RUNNING this is what you need to worry about FIRST. This will take NO TIME to execute, and you can move on to other tasks afterward.. IMO, you are trying to do WAAAAAAY too much at once with a tool it appears that you are not fully familiar with.

Like schoolboy said AFTER you get the store WORKING, then setup a development site for doing mods/hacks.installing add-ons..

Install add-ons ONE AT A TIME. DO NOT MOVE ON to install the next one until you get the one you are working FUNCTIONING as it should. If you are unsuccessful in getting an add-on working UNINSTALL IT before you move on to the next add-on..

Every time you install a module, you should be using a tool like Winmerge or Beyond Compare to merge any file differences so that you will have a higher probability that your add-ons will work and work together.

If you are unsuccessful in getting an add-on working UNINSTALL IT before you move on to the next add-on..

Steps 1-4 are already done and have been done for some time.....prob is a RETURNING customer is UNABLE to place their order....AND the welcome email comes from a freaky weird Non EXISTANT address.....it would be Foolish to open doors when your FROM email address is WRONG...therefore would never reach you if a customer hit REPLY....and of course....can't even return to your store because of the damn password prob.

I love how everyone jumps to conclusions as to why we can't open for biz. Would appreciate it if one would 'carefully' read post before jumping down ones throat:blink: It's funny, no one has come up with a constructive answer besides a bunch of opinions.

No one answers HOW to uninstall a mod such as the Fast and Easy that doesn't work

A vanilla Zen Cart install configured correctly WITHOUT add-ons or any other modifications would not behave in this manner.

Also you should NOT be making changes on your live store.. Create a parallel site, do your development there, and then once it is all tested and works, then move the changes over to the live site.. This way your live site and sales are NOT disrupted..

We are all responding to the information you have provided. We have CAREFULLY read your posts, and we're responding to what YOU have told us about your store.. Since we (those who have responded) all seem to be having the same "mis-understanding" you might consider that..

Like I've said in other threads you've got a LOT going on all at ONCE with this store that it is hard to get a handle on what the answer is to any ONE of the issues you've reported.. IMO, I haven't seen anyone post ANYTHING but constructive advice, which as it so happens comes with OPINIONS that are informed by our experience with this tool. In short, we've all been trying to help..

helpmeplease:

No one answers HOW to uninstall a mod such as the Fast and Easy that doesn't workThere is no uninstall program if that's what you are wanting to know.. To uninstall it you simply reverse ALL of the steps you took to install it.. (This is the 1st time I've seen you ask this question BTW)

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

Ugh! I HATE being called "Ms." but that's a personal thing. As a store owner, I wouldn't like to annoy folk, so I guess I'll turn the salutation off. I'd really be interested in hearing of a real/offical solution, if there is one :)

There is no official solution. Some people have made the change, but it's an awful lot of work to do it properly with the architecture that Zen Cart inherited. So the official solution will come with the next generation of Zen Cart.

I think it's better to give users the choice. I have had one user who was remarkably upset by the lack of Miss in the salutation options

Re: How to add Mrs as a prefix in my checkout?

Does this same limitation exist in the current version? Can the current version (1.3.9h, at the moment) have Mr./Ms./Mrs. as the salutation choice?

Until version 2.0 is ready, the salutation option is a switch : Male or Female, whatever they're named. No other options are possible without significant custom coding.

Kuroi,

I love your optimism.
I've just gone through this entire thread, and you've been waiting for 2.0 since, oh, what that 2009? And it's been talked about for much longer.

Anyway, irrespective of the history of Zen and the excellent work of our esteemed volunteer programmers. If any of the developers are listening (yes, I will ignore the issue for now), I've incorporated contact forms on all my web sites with a drop down of various salutations, not just a couple, so the final development ought to be prepared for unlimited additions to any list.

Example from my sites:-

Mr
Mrs
Ms
Miss
Prof
Dr
Sir
Rev

I did once think of "Rt. Hon." but that might be carrying it too far. That lot aren't Honourable any more.

Any future db field created for salutations ought to be large enough for the widest variety of salutations to be added when desired.

There are plenty of people in the world who find such an addition to their name on any correspondence a sign of respect, and that is the basis of good customer relations.

Meanwhile I'll wait.
