Re: Can Zen Cart do this type of site...?

Great...!

Is it strictly a function of the template/layout/css?
Or are the other tweaks necessary?

Thanks, Kobra,

alice

A bit more than basic templating and css

Kobra's right, but start with the basic stuff and try building from there. Don't try to recreate that same look all at once. Do it step by step.

Re: Can Zen Cart do this type of site...?

Thanks to you both...
Kobra, you said it's a bit more than basic templating and css. But would you be kind enough to tell me what else i need to change?

I'm very new to ZC, but i think i can do this with a little guidance.
i'd greatly appreciate knowing what to change and in what sequence, so i don't start off wrong and then re-trace/re-do--which i did with a few things already!

What would be of great help is the sequence of modification, ie:

  1. Custom template > change fonts, positions, etc.
  2. Admin > config > ...

Thanks in advance,
alice

Re: Can Zen Cart do this type of site...?

To create a very basic custom template (you can build from there), you need:

  • includes\languages\YOUR_TEMPLATE\english.php
  • includes\templates\YOUR_TEMPLATE\template_info.php
  • includes\templates\YOUR_TEMPLATE\common\tpl_header.php
  • includes\templates\YOUR_TEMPLATE\images\logo.gif
  • includes\templates\YOUR_TEMPLATE\css\stylesheet.css

Any where in ZC that you see a \classic\ folder, you can create a folder for your custom template.

Also, take a look at the FAQ/tutorials available on this site.

Re: Can Zen Cart do this type of site...?

My basic advice is not to be concerned with the look up front. Set it up and get it doing the things that you want from a functional point of view...then when you are 150% satisified that you have the functionality that you want all the things that require styling/moving/relocating etc are installed and can be addressed in a single session that may take you some time but you can concentrate on just styling and not function

Re: Can Zen Cart do this type of site...?

Great, thanks!
I've got my template up and running now, so now i just need to tweak the fonts/positions/colors/etc. to achieve something closer to the KOLO website.

Thanks again!

Re: Can Zen Cart do this type of site...?

Thanks Kobra. Good advice.

Luckily, I've gotten the functionality pretty much done; as it was fairly straight-forward. The design side is what i'm finding more challenging, but i'm sure it'll get easier with practice & the tutorials.
