Server blocks port 25

Hi
Recently my web host (Network Solutions) started blocking port 25 for email. They say they want everyone to migrate to sendmail. I've always used PHP for my mail transfer option and its worked great. Sendmail never worked, and doesn't now either.

The emails are getting archived in the db, but not going out to everyone. When I send an email to someone who doesn't use port 25 for their incoming mail, however, then the email goes through. Very frustrating, especially since I am missing the emails with the middle cc digits.

Network Solutions is CRAP for customer service, and I don't expect to get any help from them, so any help or insight would be great. Thanks

I know that alot of ISP, ( COMCAST ) are blocking port 25 and oyu have to use their outgoing mail server, but to have a webhost block it is just pathetic.

So are there no work arounds? It was my clients insistence that we move to Network Solutions, another move will be a whole new headache all over again.

I'm really starting to think I need to partner with a decent host, get a dedicated server and host my own, where I can control what gets blocked, what versions of php to run etc. I have heard that Media Temple has such an option. Any thoughts?

While I have not looked the php mailer must have a port designation and you could look for this and alter to what the host is now allowing

Sounds like your client really doesn't know what he's talking about. :blink: There are far better hosts that cost a lot less than NS. PM me for my recommendation.

Depending on your needs, that may be the best thing. IMO a small-operation e-commerce site should be looking at a dedicated server once it starts to make money. It doesn't take long before shared hosts (whether shared space or VPS) really show their limitations. That's aside from security, access, and personalization needs.
