Retaining Sold Out Products in Catalog

Hi there! First time poster, long time lurker, etc, etc.

Now that thats out of the way! I tried searching for an answer to this which has solved all of my previous questions but I can't for the life of me figure out how to search for this one:

I want to keep out of stock items visible in the catalog. The thing is, I've found if I add a product with 0 quantity it shows up fine, but if I add a product with 1 and then purchase it, it disappears and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to prevent this.

Additionally, I don't wish to resort the products, I want them to stay in whatever order I told them to be in initially, just... out of stock! :)

Thanks so much,
--Hunter

Re: Retaining Sold Out Products in Catalog

Peek in the Configuration ... Stock settings ...

Make sure you have leave status set to 1:

Products status in Catalog when out of stock should be set to
Show Products when out of stock

0= set product status to OFF
1= leave product status ON

It is on, which is one of the reasons I'm so puzzled. Thank you so much for the quick response, though. Once we're rich (or, perhaps just profitable!) I owe you big.

Re: Retaining Sold Out Products in Catalog

What version of Zen Cart are you running?

Clean install or an upgrade? If an upgrade from what version to what version? And how did you do the upgrade?

Have you an URL that we can peek at?

Have you any add-ons added to the code?

Re: Retaining Sold Out Products in Catalog

Edit to answer questions -- and edited again to answer the questions for REAL this time.

1.3.7, and it is an upgrade from 1.3.5 -- did it per usual upgrade instructions.

The only addons I have are column sorting and ImageHandler2.

To peek, take a look at http://www.maidengear.com/store/ -- I hope it isn't too messy!

According to the product page, in bright red it says *Product is Disabled -- so I guess that's what I'm looking for: the setting that prevents products being reduced to zero stock disabling a product.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Retaining Sold Out Products in Catalog

Take a product currently marked out of stock or RED ... and add quantity 1 and set it to in stock ...

It should now be green ...

Switch to Classic Template ...

Order that product ...

Does it go out of stock when quantity hits 0?

Re: Retaining Sold Out Products in Catalog

I was wondering about this as well. For customers to be able to order things that may not be in stock at the moment, but can backorder them, even if it's not currently in stock. I'll just read this thread instead of starting my own.

And you were so excited ... you, too, forgot to tell us how ... :lamo:

What was the solution?

Re: Retaining Sold Out Products in Catalog

There's a solution to this problem albeit on an older thread.

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24602&highlight=negative+stock

Solves the disappearing stock when it goes negative. The only issue I'm having with it is that the customer end display says TEXT_OUT_OF_STOCK instead of OUT OF STOCK. Suggestions for solving this minor detail would be appreciated.
