test mode with AIM

Can someone give a thumbnail of what TEST MODE does? Does it send anything to the payment gateway? If not, what does it do? I'm sure it says somewhere but darned if I can find it!

Never mind...

I figured out that it does not send any data to the gateway and that you can use the test numbers to simulate sending the data to the gateway. I thought the test numbers were set up on the gateway but Authorize.net declines the test numbers, so that must not be the case.

If this is wrong, maybe someone can correct it for future reference!

authorize.net "test" transactions "do" send data to the servers, but when in "test" mode, they do not "record" the transactions. It only tests communication between your site and theirs, as that's all that should be needed.
