Required attribute function works no longer

hi all,
my "reqired attributes functions" doesnt work any more. It all went wonderfull a few days ago and suddenly doesnt work any more. I have fields for size and text (i.e. Breite, Höhe - shop is german) in my shop which needs to be filled out before customers are ordering. Previously it worked and the shop let not go customers to checkout before filling out these fields. All fields were defined in the rigth way in attributes controller.

Now no one of my "required fields" work any more. And I have a lot. Don´t know what happened. Now customers can checkout without filling this fileds. This is a catastrophy.

My hoster upgraded to "MySQL 5.0.33" a few days ago - may this have any effect?

My ZC is 1.3.7 and an example product here:

http://www.escrevo.de/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=95&products_id=252

Just try and leave emty "Breite" or "Höhe" and nothing happens.

I would be happy, if anybody has an idea what to do. Thak you

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Hi Kobra,

thanks for reply, but I dont have php 5 but php 4.4.4 installed. Its just my database Version of MySQL wich is Version 5.0.33.
Does this interfere as well with my problem?

I allready thought as well that database could be responsable, but I`m not that professional in this things...

My problem yet exists - do you or anybody else of this forum have another idea?
The mentioned fields are all text-fields (Grösse, Breite) and in attribute-controller all settings are as required.

Ah, I almost forgot: Installed "Image Handler2" recently, may this lead to troubles that way?

Thanks for help

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Ok, I eliminated some possible errors:
Installed a fresh 1.3.7 shop on my host - and discovered it`s not the SQL 5.0.33 Version and installed Image Handler2 as well on the new shop: Everything referring to "required text- attributes" works: means no checkout possible without filling required text-fields.

Afterwards I hang in my original database in this fresh shop and surprisingly the error appeared again.

This means that my problem must have origin in my database, without knowing what exactly. Never changed anything manually in my db.

Ill yet look for other mods Ive installed shortly (google sitemap, pricelist, pay-modules), which possibly can affect my db.

Do anybody have an idea, what happened. Thanks

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Hi all,

seems to be not a very frequent or interesting problem, as answers are quite rarely.

But my text-attribute-fields which are defined as required, are continuing "not working". They let customers fill the cart without filling required fields.

Allready explained everthing above.

Now I tested everything on a new fresh test-shop with all my installed mods and everything on a knew database and voila - required fileds are working fine, will say, are requireing filling them before checkout.

Might be anything with my database, I suppose, just don´t know what!

So I´m kindely asking once more in this forum, Is there anybody who had similar problems or do have an idea whats going on?
Appreciate every note.
Thanks

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Hi All,
ok, after a long time today I dedicated to my old problem, which still exists.

Found out now, that I still have an old backup-version of my db on which the "required-text-attributes" still are working fine as they shall do.

Thats a light hope to get it yet run as it was.

But unfortunately this backup is 2 month old and a lot of data meanwhile changed in my shop.

So I`m searching for a economical method to compare both db's to find out whats wrong in the actual one. Just I´m not sure what for I have to look, which fields or settings? Maybe it's just the content of one stupid field or table.

Do anybody have an idea regarding to the "required-text-attributes-settings" in the database?
Thanks for help

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

yepee...! Found it out now what it is: "Google Site Map Admin" - Mod

Thought I had allready checked every Mod, but this one I obviousely had forgotten.

When I install the db-backup before "google-sitemap-Admin" - installation, everything works of my required text attributes.

But when I install the mod over this backup - required text attributes stops working. This is at least in my case, does not mean taht this mod causes thes effect in every installation.

But although I know the origin of the problem, I can't easily get rid of it, because haven't a deinstall of that sql-file.

Will contact the author of this mod - maybe he has got a deinstall file.

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Hello Walzen (or anyone else who might know),

I am having the same problem that you had - my required text attributes no longer works and I recently installed the google sitemap module as well. I was wondering if you've found a solution to make the required attributes work with Google Sitemap or if you just had to uninstall the sitemap module?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Hallo febp,

I´m really very sorry but I didnt yet resolve this problem neither - probably in opposit to what Ive been saying in my latest thread.

To me it seems as it is the Google ML Mod, but I do not have further proofs. I didin´t have time to work with this.

The only possibility on my opnion is to deinstall Google XML Mod, but there is no de-install for that mod ?!

And as I´m needing as well Google XML I ´ve not been able to repair this error.
So I´m still living with the problem and have to contact the customers, when they led free the text-fields after ordering.
It´s a silly state, I know.

Sorry

If anybody knows more about this problem, I would be glad.

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Hallo Walzen,

Are you using the Google Sitemap module by Andrew Berezin? If so, that module does have an uninstall SQL file (http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&cPath=40_60&products_id=544).

Even if it's not the same module, I believe you can still uninstall your sitemap module by removing all of its files from your server (but make sure that if the sitemap module's files overwrote any original Zen Cart files that you put back your originals) and deleting any of rows added by the module from your database using phpMyAdmin probably in "Table: configuration"... but I am not an expert yet, so be careful.

Still, I hope we can figure out the solution soon because I would like to keep the Google Sitemap module too.

Viel Gluck! Und danke fur Ihre Antwort,
Aubrey

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

I have just installed google maps and observed this problem also. :(

Currently, I am evaluating options to implement solution; this is what has lead me to this thread. It looks like a difficult problem to reconcile; thus google maps may have to go. Not an appealing trade off, but new products can not be added without attibute functionality. And the contrary is obvious, without the ability to map and submit to the search engine, those new products do not get noticed.

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

As stated earlier, my attribute page in product catagories no longer works. This was noticed after I installed Google site map. Being smart I backed up my data before installing Google site map, Therefore I did a roll back of the directory image before Google site map and found that the attributes function still does not work, i.e. I get a white page.

Upon review of activities in the past I suspect a recent server migration to Linux environment with php 5.0.4-10.5 is the reason. MySQL 4.1.20-1.FC4.1 is also different from when originally installed the Zen-cart. This error went unnoticed for a good while because I did not have to add any products to the site since the time I migrated. But once I tried to edit and or add products the necessary attributes page error became apparent

I think then that I have a compatibility problem between my Zen Cart 1.3.6 and the php . I am debating to move to Zen Cart 1.3.7; it looks as though this will not be effective. Contemplating my next move as I gather more research.

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Hi there, sorry to hear you're having problems too. I thought I'd let you guys know, I uninstalled Goolge Sitemap from my test store (I have a live store and test store, and the attributes are broken in both) and the attributes are still broken. So I am re-installing from a fresh install. Sigh.

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

walzen or anyone else - have you found a resolution to the problem? I have the same issue. I don't think I installed Google Site Map, but I do have Google Checkout installed, as well as the Ask A Question mod. Could it be one of those that's causing a problem?

Hi aaelghat,

Sorry, I haven't found the solution to this problem; am just living with it for now. I don't have any of the same modules you have installed, so maybe the problem is elsewhere.

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Thanks, FEPB. Do you happen to have JROX Affiliate Manager installed? What Mods do you have installed (trying to find some commonality) Do you know if you are running PHP 4 or 5?

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Hi,

I don't have JROX Affiliate Manager installed, but I've got the following installed (21 in total - I know, maybe not a great idea, but I really did need/want them. The list is quoted from another thread where I posted the mods I've got installed to see if anyone knew of any that affected the required attributes). Along with the quoted ones, I've now also since installed:

**- Google/Froogle Feeder

  • Blank Sidebox
  • Ty Package Tracker**

My server info:
** Server OS: ** Linux 2.6.14.7
** PHP Version: ** 4.3.11 (Zend: 1.3.0)
** Database: ** MySQL 4.1.20-max-log
** HTTP Server: ** Apache

fepb:

Hi Zenners,

I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out by telling me if/which of any of the following contributions/modules that I have installed could possibly be affecting my attributes?

First of all, the problem I'm having is this: Customers can add items to the cart without inputting required text attributes. If they do not select a display only required dropdown attribute, they get the warning message to select the required display only attribute, but then the required text attribute boxes are gone and they can add the item to the cart without the text attributes as long as they select the dropdown one. (We sell custom pet clothes and therefore attributes are very important). Example Here

So I've been going through my store looking to see if any of the following contributions that I've installed could have caused this problem but so far am coming up empty. I'm *fairly *certain that this problem occurred quite recently and I do know for sure that this all functioned properly once upon a time, so I'm listing the contributions in reverse order (as best I can remember) starting from most recently installed in the hopes that someone might be able to help me identify the root of my problem:

  • **Add Phone Number & Subject to Contact Us **(I combined elements from 2 separate contributions)
  • Email Archive Manager (by Frank Koehl)
  • Google XML Sitemap (by Andrew Berezin)
  • **Backup mySQL Database Plugin **(by Dr. Byte)
  • *Cross Sell (updated by Dr. Byte)
  • *Cart Upsell (by TooLateSmart)
  • **Bestsellers Thumnail Images **(by PaulS)
  • Image Handler 2 (by Tim Kroeger)
  • **PayPal Sessions Viewer **(by Dr. Byte)
  • Google Translate Sidebox
  • **Login Sidebox **(by Linda McGrath)
    **- Custom Templates **(by Merlin)
  • **Newsletter Subscribe **(by Sara Jacobson)
  • **Encrypted Master Password **(by Dennis Sayer)
**- Easy Populate **(by Nicholas Keown)
  • **About Us Page **
  • **EZ Pages on Sitemap **(by Gerard)
**- Add Customer from Admin **(by Aerodynamic_hippo)
  • I've tried removing the coding for these 2 contributions (Cart Upsell & Cross Sell) from my tpl_product_info_display.php but it did not fix the problem.

Our store is still fairly new but we are getting increased traffic, so any help at all would be most appreciated because attributes play a huge role in our ordering system with as about 90% of our products are custom.

Thank you all very much! (Even if you didn't come up with anything, thank you for reading!)

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

OK - for what it's worth, the only mod we match up on is that we both have Image Handler 2. I have different versions of OS, PHP, etc. I did try uninstalling Image Handler 2 through the Admin menu, but that didn't fix the issue. This is maddening - this is a huge step backwards that the text validation no longer works and there are no good leads of how to resolve the issue!

My details are below:

Operating system Linux
Kernel version 2.6.19-1_3.BHsmp
Apache version 1.3.37 (Unix)
PHP version 4.4.6
MySQL version 4.1.21-standard-log

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

Now that you mention it, I've been having strange issues with Image Handler. Sometimes when I go into Image Handler in my store admin (I'm thinking this is after I've installed a new contribution), I have to click on the install link to re-install Image Handler under "Admin" (from within Image Hadler) before I can add/edit photos under "Manage". This happened just yesterday after I installed Google/Froogle Feeder, and I remember having to do this at least 2 other times in the recent past. This got me thinking yesterday and wondering if it was Image Handler affecting my attributes.

Re: Required attribute function works no longer

grantc, this worked like a charm for me, THANK YOU.

I had spent hours trying to resolve this previously. I had created a fresh install and compared files line-by-line, compared tables, dropped and re-imported tables, dropped and rebuilt indices. I was so bummed that my text validation was broken, and now it's fixed. Again, many thanks!!!
