Adding gift certificates calculates wrong shipping

When I purchase a GC on its own, the shipping is free. But when I add other products that has shipping charges, the shipping is calculated based on the total including GC. For example, I buy a sample product for $2, and I buy a GC worth $30. The shipping is $4.50. It should be $2. I have table rate shipping. I followed the tutorial to set up the GC, so I know it's set up correctly.

I found 2 threads with the same problem, and I tried to edit a few things like changing the GC to be always free shipping, but it's not working correctly.

I upgraded from 1.3.6 to 1.3.7. I can't remember if it worked correctly before the upgrade or not. My store is not live yet.

Since this was an upgrade - try this first. Uninstall all of your payment, shipping and order totals modules. ( be sure you have the settings used written down)

Close your browser.

Count to 10

Reopen your browser, go to the Admin and install your payment, shipping and order totals modules. Do not install any modules that you are not going to use.

I just did this, and it didn't fix it. :( Anything else I can try?

Gift Certificates should be setup as:

1 Product is Virtual YES

2 Product Model starts with: GIFTanything_else_here

What shipping modules are you using?

The product is set up correctly. I'm using table rate (based on price) and free shipping options (free shipping on orders over $50).

Go to the Modules ... Shipping ...

Copy your settings to NotePad and click on each and click Remove ... Install ... and Configure them again ...

Did that... still not calculating correctly. :cry:

It's still broke! I removed free shipping option, removed all the modules, replaced module files and template files, and tried to set it up as a product w/ free shipping. Nothing is working. Help!

After playing around, it seems as though whatever shipping module I choose, it miscalculates shipping if there's a free shipping product in the cart, virtual or not. Did I not configure something correctly? So far, I tried table rate and flat rate shipping (enabling only one or the other).

I am having this same problem on a 1.3.7 site.

Gift certificates should be free shipping, and they are when they're the only thing in your cart.

However, when a non-virtual item is added to the cart, the price of the gift certificate is added into the order total when shipping is calculated, making the gift certificate no longer truly free shipping.

We are charging shipping using the Zone Rates, by price (total order cost). Is there any way to set this so free shipping items are deducted from the order total before the shipping is calculated?

What are your settings in Admin->Modules->Order Total->Gift Certificates?

Check that you have the current Zone Rate:

just find out in reading this post that I have the same problem !!!!

My setting in Order Total>>Gifts Certificates are as the default one (same as posted above by aeolidia).

I am charging shipping using the Zone Rates, by item/s

Using Zen-cart 1.3.7

If I remember correctly, this thread solved the problem. Try Ajeh's fix in posts #8 and 10.

Thanks for the link but I got a problem:

I can see the line // bottom total

but I don't have the line
} // eof: attribute price

So no idea what I have to replace.

Thank you, this worked for me, because our gift certificates were priced by attribute.

Mario, I didn't have that line either, but I replaced all the text up until the line:

and that worked fine.
