Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

Hi all,

I've gone through the installation process for Zen cart. It liked the info I gave it about databases, web directories and phpBB, and installation seemed to flow smoothly.

When I try to access the main page, however, I get an error page with the following message:

"Sorry!
There seems to be a problem connecting to our database. Please give us a few minutes to remedy the problem. Thank you."

Accessing in to the control panel, I'm presented with username and password fields. When they're entered and submitted, Zen Cart takes me to an empty white page and leaves me there.

Any ideas on where my problems might lie would be appreciated.

Please be aware that I'm very green in terms of cgi and scripting, so guidence in baby steps would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,

Pete

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

Just got a reply back from my host:

Could you please exactly know what you mean by 'restarting the MySQL'?

I honestly don't know how to reply. Are we talking about deleting the database and recreating it? If so, I can do that myself. But if it's a matter of rebooting a server or suchlike, then I can't.

Any clarification would be appreciated (although I'm amazed that my host needs such clarification!).

Thanks again,

Pete

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

Thanks!

I sent them your reply in full. Should make for an entertaining reply.

There is an SQL command interface in my account control panel, but it's not accepting that particular query. I assume that this will have to be done on the host side, right?

Thanks again,

Pete

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

SQL command interface

Do you see anything in your control panel that says "MySQL"........

Your host under their windows hosting may not have MySQL and are only offering SQL......or you missed it and setup the database under the wrong database server.

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

Okay, this is getting a bit silly.

I just got the following reply from my host, and I don't know how to answer.

Is this really brain surgery?!

Thank you for contacting Support.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Currently our MySQL admin interface does not provide the option to delete database along with login entry. The database can be deleted by 'DROP DATABASENAME' command in the database command line area but the login for the database will not be deleted. Hence, you will have to get back to us with the request to delete any particular database and login entry from our MySQL system.

If you wish to have any database deleted from your MySQL admin area, please get back to us with account username and password so that we will do it for you.

Note: Please let us know about what exactly you mean by restart MySQL. You wish to have same databse name with different data or entirly different database.

Have a good day!

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

I would run, your host seems like they are about as cometant as .............

You were asking them to actually restart the mysql service not kill a DB,

wold sugest you take a look at the top of this age for a link that says hosting,
find a good one that is designed to work with e-commerce and has a clue about restarting services

you got a URL to look at?

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

Hi,

The Zen Cart should be installed at www.punkervision.net/catalog

As I'm effectively trying to update and revamp an existing site with an established domain, I'd like to avoid the hassle of moving if I can help it.

All help appreciated.

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

movin will be less hassle than trying to deal with a service that has no clue about e-commerce settings

as of right now you have NO database connection,
Since this is a brand new install,
best thing I can say is to run the zc_install again and make sure that it takes the DB information,

if this dosnt work, I stil suggest lookng for someone hat specalizes in e-comerce

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

Done that already and it accepted the DB info with no problem. But I still get the same end result, with an error page and a non-existant control panel.

Fun fun fun...

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

Okay, here's the latest:

We apologize for providing you with inaccurate information earlier, and we regret any inconvenience that may have caused you. As we mentioned in the previous e-mail that we are in the shared hosting architecture, so we canâ?Tt restart MySQL database. Our all customers are depending on the same MySQL database. Can you please elaborate what exactly the issue and get back to us with more information.

Please get back to us with more information, and we will be happy to assist you further

It still doesn't get me any closer to a solution though.

So, considering that I still want to avoid the hassle of moving the established site's messageboard, domain et al to a new host, what's my next move?

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

Okay, here's the latest:

When I checked the URL http://www.punkervision.net/catalog/, it's comes up with error message: Fatal error in configuration file. I have corrected the database connection and syntax in 'configuration.php' file. Now the Url is loading fine but displaying message:

Sorry! There seems to be a problem connecting to our database. Please give us a few minutes to remedy the problem. Thank you.

I have verified the cgi error logs, there are no errors. I have uploaded the test page called 'testcon.php' to test database connection at http://www.punkervision.net/catalog/testcon.php, it's successfully connected to database 'shop' and able to retrieve contains. It seems to be that issue with your scripts. So please check your scripts

So, assuming that my problem has now been addressed by someone who knows whjet they're looking for, where do I look now?

Thanks again,

Pete

Re: Installation complete buy no Zen Cart

Sifted through the DB info in notepad, but can't find any errors.

Does anyone know of any services that will install ZenCart for me? I know there are people that will install web forums for a reasonable fee - is the same kind of thing available with ZenCart?

I've gone for ZenCart precisely because I'm not good with scripts and such...
