Is Zen Cart slow ? Or is it just me ??

Hello All,

I have a ZenCart Test system set up on a Stable Dormant Domain.
The setup is totally STOCK with 2 products loaded. I have followed ALL of the FAQ's concerning SPEEDING up your site.

The Front Page (INDEX) loads in .8 -1.0 seconds....
The MyDomain/ZenCart System takes .. get this: 5 to 8 seconds before displaying anything... The 2 product images I have are 2k each.

Is this unusual ? or Expected ? Customers tend to leave sites that do not display something rather quickly.

Kim,
Server Specs: 1and1 Business Account on Linux

Merlin,
Yes, a simple Html page with lots of graphics and link to weather...

Was just wondering if others have had any concern over site reaction speed under a ZenCart System.

Re: Is Zen Cart slow ? Or is it just me ??

Overall speed sux ? Several other domains on 1and1 show the same excellent speed. Some have multiple frames and lots of product graphics. Seems to me that I should have gotten at least a fair response from a ZenCart stock installation with only 2 test products carrying gaphics that are about 2k.

Of course, being a newbie, I may have something set incorrectly (out of the box) default.... hummmm

I'll throw in 20 products and see if it remains about the same speed... or gets slower...and then do some more compares....

Maybe I should look at their e-commerce carts ? I like zcart but am just a bit dissappointed at the response... Have OSCommerce on the same domain too but wont make that comparison here...

Re: Is Zen Cart slow ? Or is it just me ??

I have clients with 1000s of products and they run faster than your site with 2 ... and they have 75 - 150+ customers online at a time ...

I would really look at server issues on this ...

Re: Is Zen Cart slow ? Or is it just me ??

Steve sorry you dont like the responses, but if you do a quick search of this forum for that host you will see that there are multiple issues with speed and graphics,

Zencart is an intensive program that uses alot of queries but look at the amount of information it is putting together,

yu might as them to move you to a less crowded server,
but Like Linda we have customers with lots of products,

( 1 has over 83,000 combinations, all using attributes ) and they load faster than what you are describing.

So please dont think we are degrading 1&1, but there is enough documentation to support what we are saying.........

Re: Is Zen Cart slow ? Or is it just me ??

Merlin,
Thanks for your candid reply... I have been a 1and1 customer for several years now and have always had good server response. I do agree with you that ZCart may be the most intensive application I have placed on my domain to date. So in that light, I am going to trudge along with ZCart because I do like all the options... I'll do some complaining to 1and1 concerning ZenCart and see what their response may be... I hate the thought of having to move a domain or two to another hosting service but if it comes to it then ..o well... for now I;d rather load it up and see what settings I may be able to alter to get a better response... Thanks Again !

Just ask 1&1 to move you to a less populated server,

Re: Is Zen Cart slow ? Or is it just me ??

Merlin,

Since I seem to have your attention here for a few moments.... obviously, you are an expert with ZC .. can u point me to the right docs or info to use the ZC version of easy populate (I have it). I am concerned about "dumping" my test database in a form that I can use with EP to "easily" thow in 50 -100 products without images... I could not find an ADMIN place in ZC to Dump the database down...
Do we have to attempt the db dump manually at our HOST control panel ?..eek... I want to use Excel to "easily" edit and upload new product listings and corrections if that is possible... OSC has it but I found it not very workable...

Appreciate your valuable time !

Re: Is Zen Cart slow ? Or is it just me ??

there is a version of easy poluplate, around hre somewhere
take a look for user Langer, its in his signature,
and it has the download for you that puts everything in its place,

there is a download in the admin section of downloads, for a DB backup,
it was taken out of the core because it dosnt work with all servers.

Note: the Backup MySQL add-on that we created is a total re-write for a proper backup of your database ...

As Merlin mentioned, there is only a 98% compatibility at the moment ... but it is an easy plug-n-play add-on to install to test this out ...

I'll do some complaining to 1and1 concerning ZenCart and see what their response may be...

Not so much "concerning Zen Cart" as "concerning the server on which they placed my domain."

Companies like 1and1 have sagans of servers. Some are overcrowded; others, less so.
You may need to upgrade to get to a more lightly loaded box, or perhaps they'll do it if you just complain.

Good luck,
Scott

I must agree with the Zen team. I was wondering if Zen was going slow but then I noticed the same slow down with my nuke forum and when I complained to my host they moved me to a new box and now it's running fast as ever. So your host is the one slow. Just adding my 2 cents :)

Regards,
Tony

That's on old buggy version that is no longer supported. Support thread for the new version is URL="http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34970&highlight=langer"]here[/URL]. See Nicholas's sig for the new version.

Re: Is Zen Cart slow ? Or is it just me ??

Just to let everyone know, I've recently seen slower times with the e-commerce site I work with and it is hosted by 1and1. I will be asking them to move me to a new server to see if this helps.

Everything was great about a month ago..
