Shipping "On" in Paypal Account

Would someone please confirm this for me.

If I have "shipping calculations" on in my PayPal account, and Zen Cart sends an order, PayPal will add more shipping to the total? Then I may get an error because the two figures do not match?

I have my products also listed on a site that seems to rely on my PayPal account having shipping "on" in order to charge it. A customer purchased some soap yesterday and I had to request the shipping separately plus pay PayPal's 35 cent base transaction fee twice, once on the shipping, once on the soap. Needless to say, I lost money on that transaction and I do not think the person will be a repeat customer. He was none too happy I had to request the shipping and decided to take up the USPS cost of Priority mail with me. :huh:

Thank you,

Cheryl

Re: Shipping "On" in Paypal Account

All I could find was in Paypal profile shipping calculations:

Miscellaneous — Allow transaction-based shipping settings to override profile settings (Optional).

Click here to allow transaction-based shipping values to override the profile shipping settings listed above (if profile settings are enabled).

Is this where you turn paypal shipping off? Or should I look elsewhere?

The help files at Paypal say;

Does Express Checkout work with the shipping and tax calculator settings in my profile?
No. If you use Express Checkout, we will ignore any shipping and tax calculator settings that you may have created in your Profile. You may, however, provide us with shipping and tax amounts that you would like to charge to the buyer.

Yes, that's where shipping is "off." Leave the section above with zeros, too. Do not mark the override setting.

I do not use Express Checkout on my Zen Cart so someone else will need to comment on PayPal's help info you quoted there.

Re: Shipping "On" in Paypal Account

Thanks, I was hoping that I clicked the right box.

The Paypal Express quote was a jaded late nite response to another thread that says you should have Paypal shipping turned off because Express will overide the shops cart. Which I do not doubt in spite of Paypals help statement. I just found it interesting while looking for the answer you gave me and got this thread, other threads and Paypal all jumbled up.
My coffee wore off.:sleepy:
