In-store pickup tax not calculating

I have a store set up with version 1.3.7 and have installed the Store Pickup module. Everything works fine with the order when the shipping address is in my state but local tax is not calculated when the Store Pickup option is selected. My searches of past threads and the FAQs have not yielded anything that has helped. Any suggestions on places to look or settings I need to verify?

Perhaps you need to ask you local taxing authority if charging the tax based on the shipping address is the correct way?

You can change the tax settings to be based on the billing or shipping address, or if either of those matches the store's zone.

BTW- I live in Oregon, no sales tax here and if I ordered a gift and had it shipped to your zone, I should not have to pay any sales tax.

If the customer is picking up the merchandise in our store, we are definitely required to collect tax. I see that there is supposed to be a "Store" option under the Tax Basis section in the Store Pickup shipping module. However, it does not show up under mine. Could it be perhaps that my module is corrupt?

After much gnashing of teeth over this I ended up completely removing the Tax Class and recreating it. Once I manually changed all the products over to the new Tax Class ID it is working. Talk about an exercise in frustration.

I sit corrected. When I did that the tax was being applied to every order, regardless of shipping method or address. I found out that I had missed a step in the tax setup this time around. Once I corrected the associated zone it is back to not applying tax on in-store pickups.

Here is my setup based on the tax troubleshooting article.

1. What are your store settings for these set to?
   Admin->Configuration->My Store
   a. Country/Zone = United States/Arizona
   b. Basis of Product Tax = Shipping
   c. Basis of Shipping Tax = Shipping
   d. Display Prices With Tax = false
   e. Display Prices With Tax-Admin = false

2. What Zone Definitions have you created?
   Admin->Locations/Taxes->Zones Definitions

** Zone=Arizona**

3. Inside each of those zone definitions, what country/zone combinations have been selected?
   Admin->Locations/Taxes->Zones Definitions, click on "Details" button for each zone

** United States/Arizona**

4. What tax classes do you have?
   Admin->Locations/Taxes->Tax Classes

** Taxable Goods**

5. What tax rates have you created?
   Admin->Locations/Taxes->Tax Rates

** Taxable Goods/Arizona/6.1%**

6. What tax class have you associated with your products?
   Admin->Catalog->Categories/Products->click on a product to edit it

** All products are set to the Tax Class (Taxable Goods)**

7. What tax class have you associated with each of your shipping modules?
   Admin->Modules->Shipping

** Store Pickup = Tax Class=none Tax Basis=Shipping
Flat Rate = Tax Class=none Tax Basis=Shipping**

I am looking at changing the code to work the way I need it. The following if statement seems to work for the life of me I cannot figure out where exactly the tax calculation actually gets performed.

Can anyone give me a pointer in the right direction?

Wouldn't it just make more sense to change the basis from the shipping address to the the Store? Then you tax anyone who's address is in the same zone as the store .

That would make perfect sense except for we have a large number of customers who winter in Arizona that want to order on-line and then pick up the merchandise in our store. Therefore their billing address is out of state yet we are still required to collect tax because the items are transferred within the state. I noticed several posts in the Archives detailing other users with the exact same problem but there was never a resolution.

I still cannot figure out exactly where the code calculates the tax in order to customize it for the in-store pickup option. Anyone?

As I stated before, that does not work in all situations.

Scenario:

Customer A lives in Michigan. They are a retired factory worker who owns an RV and likes to travel. During the winter months they spend several months driving around the southwest to avoid the snow and cold. During this time they decide they wish to purchase something from us on-line and will drive to our store to pick it up. Thus, their billing address with be in Michigan and there will be no shipping address. Our business is required to collect the sales tax due to the merchandise being exchanged in-state. Therefore, our needs require that the in-store pickup option charge tax.

There was a suggestion I found in the archives that recommended customers add the store address into their shipping information. That kind of work-around would probably put off the vast majority of customers.

The only solution I see now is to modify the code to check for the option having been selected and calculating tax accordingly, overriding the billing/shipping address check.

For reference, my solution to this problem has been to disable the module and direct those customers wishing to in-store pickup to call us. :censored:

If you mean how do you install the Store Pickup Shipping module ... just go to your Zen Cart Admin ... Modules ... Shipping ... and click on Store Pickup storepickup and click on Install ...

Hi, I am having this same problem occur, state tax is not being calculated for store pick ups and it should be because it is like shipping to a New York, in this case, address. I read through this post and have tried and tested using the various settings, but I can't get it to work properly, even when using the STORE per the last post ---- Using the Store option will work- it will charge the sales tax if **either ** the shipping or the billing address is the same as the store zone. The specific example I have is a customer with a Connecticut shipping and billing address places an order and selects Store Pick Up, since the store is in New York state, NY state tax should be calculated just as if the order was being shipped somewhere in New York state. I'm wondering if PanzerBoxb found the solution to this or if anyone else has a similar situation and has the correct settings to make this work. Thanks!

My solution was to disable store pickup and investigate other solutions. I do not have the time to wade through code trying to modify ZenCart for this.

I'm facing the same issue. Has ANYONE worked out a solution? This seems to be a common problem.

If you choose In Store Pickup, shouldn't that set the destination address to the store address? If this is the case, the taxes should be applied for orders that are being picked up and the tax zone should be the same as the store tax zone.

We need to charge taxes on store pickup orders and charge the same tax rate as any other customer that walks in the door and purchases a product.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

I just found this thread with the same issue. I didn't know that there was a separate module for Store Pickup.

I'll preface this by saying I have 2 different tax classes set up (MI and OH, which have different tax rates). Both of these were working fine, along with no tax on other states.

When I was selecting store pick-up, though (in MI), the tax wasn't recalculating to MI tax.

All I did was go into Modules/Shipping/Store Pickup and edit settings to the following:

Store Pickup - True
Shipping Cost - 0.00
Tax Class - Taxable Goods
Shipping Zone - Michigan (just select the tax class for where the store is for pickup)
Sort Order - 0

I tested it & it worked beautifully. Hope that helps!
