Excluding gift certs from order total for free shipping

I have a table rate shipping with free shipping on orders over $50. I want to exclude gift certificates (virtual products too) from this $50 total. How can I modify a code to do this?

What settings are you using in the Table shipping ...

Didn't the fix for the your Zones fix this as well?

I also tried it w/ free shipping options turned off with the same result. So I have that turned off as it still knows that orders over $50 get free shipping.

Could you give me the URL again and the Products that you are using where this is not working?

I cannot repeat this error ...

Using the fixes that I gave you I am able to add:

Products marked Always Free shipping no attributes
Products marked Always Free shipping with attributes
Gift Certificates no attributes
Gift Certificates with attributes

And I get the Free shipping and Table and Zones are off ...

If I add a $0.10 product then the Free Shipping turns off and the Table and Zones both show $2.00 ...

Add any product so the total is less than $50. Then add a gift cert (from the category, not my test category) to make the total over $50. This results in free shipping because the total order is over $50. This is not what I want. I want it to calculate shipping to exclude gift certs and virtual products (or anything else w/ free shipping, for that matter).

But I believe this is related to the setting for Free shipping on Orders over $50.00 and that there isn't an exclusion when that is made up from Gift Certificates as Gift Certificates are cash ...

I don't believe there is a switch to change that rule either ...

Could you help me understand why wouldn't you want to give Free Shipping when Free shipping is orders >= $50.00 and the $50.00 is made up of Gift Certificates? It is money ... :cool:

You don't want free shipping tripped by the Gift Certificate purchase because the Gift Certificates could be used on the next order to trip the Free shipping and that would mean Free shipping twice ... :eek:

Okay ... the think says ...

I have the shop set to Free Shipping on >= $50.00 ...

I buy $25 product and $25.00 GV ... so I get Free Shipping ...

But next order I buy a $25 product and use the GV ...

But I have to pay shipping ...

Even if I buy $50.00 in GV on order 1 and $50 in product on order 2 and use the GVs ... I never get more Free Shipping than I am entitled to ...

We will look into a switch for this ... but I cannot fathom a need for this switch to avoid extra cost to the shop ...

You have a point. I went back and forth on this too. The only thing the customer can do is to have a GV cycle where she would buy $30 worth of products and $20 in GV. Next purchase would be another $30 in prod, $20 in GV, which would entitle her to free shipping, then use the $20 GV.

But in any case, cash is cash, so I guess I'm fine with this. She'll have to eventually pay shipping somewhere.b

And we have built in safeties where you cannot buy GVs or use Discount Coupons in a manner where you are setting your shop up for the order within an order within an order within the order where you end up paying the customer or giving free products ... :smartass:
