Canceling a Fraudulent Gift Certificate

Hey guys,

We had a fraudulent customer purchase $200.00 in gift certificates....is there anyway to track it and cancel it? I know that you can usually go into the database and delete the record in the zen_coupon_gv_customer table.....however, this particular customer who purchased these GV's has no money in the Amount Field of that table....

Which means that they probably already EMAILED the amount to the real fraud's email address. In fact, I know that this happened, because I see in the zen_coupon_email_track table that this was emailed to [email protected].

Is there anyway to track and cancel that amount from the system so if that other user tries to use the stolen GV money on another account, it won't work?

I noticed that there is a zen_coupon_gv_queue table, and the customer which purchased these fraudulent GV's still had the $200.00 in the Amount field...so I zero'd that out.

Is there anything else I should do to prevent some new account from paying with this gift certificate?

Re: Canceling a Fraudulent Gift Certificate

If a customer purchases GVs ... until you release them ... the GVs cannot be redeemed ...

Have they been redeemed?

Re: Canceling a Fraudulent Gift Certificate

I would assume so. They purchased it, I saw them in the GIFT QUEUE, and I confirmed their release.

Then the person used the Send Gift Certificate function to email it to some Vietnam address. I just want to make sure that this person doesn't create a new account now and use the money from this GV to purchase something.

I think I may have covered all of it by deleting the entries in those two tables, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

UPDATE: Well, apparently what I did had no effect on the fraudulent person using the gift certificate. We saw a new account created which matched the email address which the gift certificate was mailed to, and they placed a huge order with it. We immediately canceled the order and the account.

I guess my original question should have been, "Is there anyway to find out WHERE a gift certificate came from by a certain user?" If someone purchases something with a store bought gift certificate (as opposed to a gift certificate we send them through the Admin Panel), is there a code to look up and see where it originated from? At least that way, we can determine if the store bought gift certificate is linked to an account that made a fraudulent purchase.
