CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

soxophoneplayer:

I've loaded CSS Flyout Header 1.5 onto my 1.3.8 a test site.

It all works, but my nav bar wrapper has gone to a blank or white background instead of the tile.gif that I've set in my stylesheet. I double checked stylesheet and there are no changes so something must be over riding it (?)

If I comment out the entire area between bef and eof navigation in common/tpl_header.php it removes the nav bar completely, although it does return the tile.gif backround.

I'm trying to get the nav bar to look like my live site 1.3.7 www dot soxophoneplayer dot com

I don't care so much if I lose the home and login links but don't want to lose the search box nor the tile.gif background.

thanks...
I'll need to see the actual site. In what folder did you put the tile.gif?

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

tile_back.gif is in includes/templates/classic/images/

I 'might' have solved problem. Winmerge of tpl_header from flyout mod vs 1.3.8a had two </div> more in the former, near the eof navigation code. (I don't understand php even a tiny little bit, but I removed those two div bits and my entire main page turned into one humongous tile_back.gif. Oops.

So I put one of the two </div> s back and that seems to have corrected the problem, on the face of it anyway.

I've been trying to do all this dinking around on my 1.3.8 test site (local server) before upgrading 1.3.7 livesite.

I'm in process now of testing test site to make sure I didn't create 6 more problems by trying to fix one!

Thanks for this add on...I think I can improve the look of my site www dot soxophoneplayer dot com.

All opinions are welcome ;o)

CSS Flyout header with Multilanguage EZ-Pages

I installed flyout header on 1.3.8; all working. Then I added French Language Pack - still working. Added copy of headermenu, php to langages/french/extra_definitions/my template. Still working.

Then, I added Multilanguage EZ-Page mod.

When I add the french translation to the EZ-Page, with no changes all all in page title or config, the title disappears off the flyout header. In place of the missing title there is a blank bar, about half the height of the other titles in the menu.

And if you click that blank bar, the EZ-Page indeed appears correctly. So the page is there and the link is there, even though it is invisible.

This is all on test site w local server so can't show.

Hey Jade, just got around to installing your menu mod. GREAT! Took me about an hour to figure out how to turn off the *Home * Login, but I finally figured it out and have it working. Looks great and works great. Thanks for all the time you've spent on this.

You can see it here, note store is not yet active.

Exactly. If it weren't for IE, this thread would be less than half as long. :flex:

:laugh: And now we have IE8 to deal with. Wish MS could just get it right for ounce.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

Vanishing file. I installed CSS Dropdown Menu on my test site; tweaked; ftp's to live site. Then...I did some patch installing on test site and then to live site. I made a boo boo when I installed an older html_output.php patch over top of a newer one, which froze up my admin configs. Dr Btye helped me get that sorted and fixed.

Then today the dropdown menu on my test site went wonky, while the live site was/is working properly.

Long story short, somewhere in all that, the little wee file includes/csshover.htc vanished from the test site (it must have been there, else it wouldn't have been copied to the live site).

It was a long day before I actually went through and inventoried the files in the the mod to see if they were in fact present!

Maybe I can save someone else a few hours of hair pulling to suggest 'count the files' ;o)

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

Hi Jade,
This is a great mod. Thanks!
I used the about us page mod with it. But isn't it possible to use this with more languages? I copied all the english language files and changed them accordingly, but it isn't working right. I see that there is only 1 information.php and that is why it isn't working right.
Is there somebody that knows how to get more pages with this about us page mod?
I searched for a thread about the about-us page mod, but I couldnot find any,l so that is why I put it here.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

To be clear, I have created a page under the Home link. I added the link to the tpl.drop_menu.php. But I can only add 1 link, the dutch link or the english link.
That is why I only see it right in 1 language.
But what is the solution?:frusty:

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

How can the drop down menu of the Categories be applied to the EZ pages?

I have a site that is full of information and only one page for selling membership.

I'd like to be able to see all the site pages in the drop down fly out menu.

Thanks in advance.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

This is a great mod! I have been using it for a long time.
This is a really big forum. I did not see answer to my question, please refer me back to page if you have answer. My apologies.

As my store is additing more products and categories, I noticed that timing is too short when someone is trying to locate particular category. For example, when you hover over Books at top of categories and try to go to another level. You are dropped and have to start over. I had others tell me it is very annoying. I think it is a timing issue.

How do I fix? so you can go to categories without having to start over? This is difficult to explain...maybe you can Check it out:https://www.burnerbooks.com to understand.

Thanks, Kim

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

Is there a way to have it so that the only menu showing is the categories. I want to get rid of the other options like home, information and the other ones.

Also, for the categories, is there a way to set it up just like how sears.com has their categories? When you hover over the top category, it expands and shows all of the 2nd level categories with the 3rd level categories under each of those.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

Hi! I'm using 1.3.8 and I did rename the "shop by brand" to "shop by author" but I do not have a dropdown list of my manufacturers. Yes, I have two listed, and one test product for each of them.

How can I make the manufacturers show as a drop down?
And is there a way for the "shop by author/brands" link to not be the home page, but a manufacturers page?

Tested in both IE7 and Firefox.

Thanks!

:clap: And I fixed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I apparenly had to add the <ul class=" tag and then close them at the bottom, but I got it to work!!!!!!

Here's my code for the manufacturers section. Hope it helps!

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

Hi this drop down menu is the biz. Love it.

Only one thing I would like it to do and am not sure how to go about it...

I would like the categories menu to go down to the product level. So the menu might go something like;

printer make>printer model>cyan cartridge.

Instead of stopping at the model level..

Appologies if this has already been discussed, but i could not find a reference to it.

If anyone could point me in the right direction i would be most greatful!

Thanks, Wayne.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

Hello,

Great mod. I was wondering if there is a way to disable sub catagories from showing on the menu. I still need them to be accessable everywhere else, but I'd like to keep the horizontal menu simple. Please see http://209.200.240.121/ as an example of what I'm talking about. I really only need it to show the first two Catagory selections.

Thanks

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

We have installed and now have a drop down menu. But with issues. I have searched the forum and need help. As you can see on our site (http://bohemianglitz.com/index.php?main_page=index) are issues are as follows:

1.) have white space where the Home and login links are in the header-- would like it to be our background image
2.) want to remove the home and login links-- maybe replace with my account and shopping cart that is currently in the main navigation
3.) want to remove the drop down from the home link in the main navigation and move these links to another button
4.) want to add another sub category to allow visitor to search for jewelry by gold>silver>etc.
5.) Want to rename the main links on the drop down menu from categories to shop online,
6.) page displays different in firefox than IE

Any help or direction with these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for the header- With Categories!

Found what I needed here. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=502216&postcount=796

It just took forever for me to find it. I basically wanted to limit the amount of catagories that would show up. What you need to do is adjust the $max_level in includes/classes/categories_ul_generator.php line 26
From:

class zen_categories_ul_generator {
    var $root_category_id = 0,
    $max_level = 0,

to however many levels you want. I only wanted 2 levels.

class zen_categories_ul_generator {
    var $root_category_id = 0,
    $max_level = 2,

Works great.
