public folder to change permissions

I can not find the public folder to change my permissions before installing the zen cart - boy this is much more difficult that I thought to set up - I hope it gets easier after I figure out how to get the cart installed - Geez!

Depending on your host this can be named many things:
Some are:

home
public_html
www

And then some do not allow editing above the public directory and place you directly in your public area by default
