Products gone....

I have installed on Debian server and added some categories and a couple of products but when I shut down and restart everything I added has disappeared.

I did have a problem previously and ended up re-installing over the top of the orginal which worked before the blip, now I have this problem.

Any ideas on what could be the cause and a solution please.

No. I have a VM on my laptop running Debian Sarge. Everything appears to be working ok except when I shut down Debian I loose all the products/categories I have added
