Removing a portion of my shop

how would I remove the whole area including the blue area (remove it so i dont even have an option of putting stuff there and so the main center part thats white and says welcome extends over the area I want removed).

Go to Admin > Configuration > Layout Settings > Column Right Status - Global (line 14) and set it to "0"
