Linking product images from elsewhere on my site

How can I link to images already on my site (not in the Zen Cart directory)?

I've tried using:

  • Document related link (../../images/image.jpg)
  • Site root related link (/images/image.jpg)
  • Server root related link (/home/domain/public_html/images/image.jpg)
  • Even URL link (http://mysite.com/images/image.jpg)
  • Nothing works! (I end up with a question mark symbol)

Can anyone shed some light on how to do this correctly?

(Note: As of 2007 I've moved all my ecommerce development to Drupal/Ubercart.)

Re: Linking product images from elsewhere on my site

Where do you want these images to display?

If you want them to display as default images that are positioned through the intricacies of zencart's templates and PHP, then they have to reside in the appropriate directory (IMAGES) in your webshop...

...unless of course you feel like rewriting the core code!

We also needed supplementary images (and resources) to augment our product descriptions... some housed in remote servers.

When we typed up the product descriptions (ADD a product), we used basic HTML resource calls EG:

<img src="http://www.other_website/com/images/image1.jpg">

...sometimes using HTMLArea to insert the url into the description's page-code.

All you need to ensure is that the path is correct.

One drawback is the result of HARD CODING (inserting FULL URL's into the HTML code), that can cause https issues (such as initiating a popup on the browser that alerts the shopper to insecure items needing to be displayed).

It's unfortunate that it's difficult to share images.:dontgetit

You CAN share images... just keep a copy of that image in your own images folder:huh:

Good point! As a web designer I'm so used to adding components to an already structured site, so I forget I can simply borrow elements from within the Zen-Cart framework!
