Copying a subcategory to rest of categories?

I have about 200 categories that will contain the same subcategory for each (the subcategory is "Return Address Labels"). Is there a way to copy the Return Address Label subcategory to the rest of the categories (the categories are Dog and Cat Breeds) ?

Thanks!
Sandy

TWO HUNDRED categories... :shocking:

Your customers will be scrolling down one of the longest web pages in the history of e-shopping!

Not quite sure what you want to achieve

Can you be more precise?

Re: Copying a subcategory to rest of categories?

Hi Schoolboy,

Sorry, I misspoke on that. The main category is "Dog Breed Gifts" (that is what shows in the left hand column). But in that category are about 160 breeds. Within each breed subcategory, is another sub-subcategory called "Return Address Labels". It is this sub-subcategory that I wondered if there was a way to more easily create it rather than one at a time. I also have to do this same thing for "Cat Breed Gifts". And then there are the "Note Pads", "Greeting Cards", etc., etc.

Thanks much for your help!
Sandy

Re: Copying a subcategory to rest of categories?

You should create your categories and product database on a MS Excel spreadsheet, then "populate" your database using "EasyPopulate".

See DOWNLOADS for EasyPopulate Module

It's still a fair amount of work creating the Excel spreadsheet - but it's MUCH FASTER than doing it through the zencart interface because you can use Excel's "Copy/Paste" feature to duplicate entries in a matter of micro-seconds...

You're awesome! Thanks, yet again, for all the help you've given me.

The "e-Start Your Web Store with Zen Cart" manual should arrive by Friday - can't wait!

Re: Copying a subcategory to rest of categories?

Just thinking again about what you're trying to do...

Those "sub categories" ... Address labels, etc...

Would these not be better to set up as PRODUCTS with ATTRIBUTES???

If you create a product that needs the shopper to PERSONALISE it... such as an address label, then you use TEXT BOX attributes that the customer fills in.

If these attribute OPTION NAMES are things like:-

YOUR NAME:
ADDRESS LINE ONE:
ADDRESS LINE TWO:
ADDRESS LINE THREE:
STATE:
ZIP CODE:

... then the CUSTOMER just fills in the info according to their personalised data. Also, you can set PRICES in these attributes ... 50cents per letter, or $1 per word.

You get an order that's for an address label - specific to the customer and PRICED according to the configuration you've chosen.

Then... using zencart's LINKED PRODUCT feature, reflect these (single) products across ALL relevant categories.

This will make managing your store and products FAR easier.

Re: Copying a subcategory to rest of categories?

I do have them set up that way. Within the Return Address (folder if you will) I have the actual products - address label images for that breed. Each return address label image product has those attributes set up.
