Customer able to select Credit card even though it's turned off in admin

As per title.

A customer is being prompted to pay via credit card on my site (not the paypal page) My site has all the payment modules turned off except for the Credit Card/Paypal (debug mode active)

Email below of what he can see.

====
Hi.

The problem was on the site itself not on Paypal.

The options of types of cards, Visa, Amex, Maestro etc. Asks for the card
number, expirey date etc etc.

The Visa and Amex cards give you the option of putting your security number
details in but the Maestro details ask you for the start date on your card
and the expirey date.

There is no start date on a Maestro card and as I mentioned before you can
not add your security number.

I am happy to give you my card details here in payment of the stickers I was
after, so let me know and I'll mail them to you.

Getting errors now. Have decided to delete everything including the 100s products and start all over again from scratch.

There is no such thing as "Credit Card/Paypal". Credit Card is a separate item from PayPal.

Ah, sorry. That makes sense for people who aren't aware they can pay by cc using PayPal. Very odd that they're getting the cc option.

Shame I've lost the old customer details/orders for my new install. I still have them in /new_shop but there's no way I'm risking transferring them to the current database judging by what needs to be done.

If you have phpMyAdmin in your webmaster panel, you can export the information from the /new_shop database and import it into the one that got wiped. That way you'll still have a copy.

Hi Afo.

I really need a "how to export/import customer details from the old database to new - for dummies" guide - I really don't want to mess this database up.

I have myphpadmin but no idea what I need to do.

Click on phpMyAdmin on your webmaster panel. You'll get another screen which will allow you to select a database from the pulldown menu. Select the database that has the good data.

Once you select the db, there'll be tabs at the top of the screen. Select EXPORT. This will export the entire db for you. I believe you can do individual tables as well, but I haven't tried that. There should be some radio buttons to select the format. Click on SQL if it isn't already selected.

Further down on that screen, there should be a box to indicated you want to save it as a file. Make sure that's selected. Click GO when you're ready and you should get a popup window asking what you want to do with the file. Make note of the file name and save it on your hard drive somewhere (rememeber where! ;) ).

After that's saved, use the same pull down menu to select the DB you want to populate with that data (I'm assuming they're on the same domain. If not, go to the webmaster panel for that domain and start from phpMyAdmin again). This time you want to select IMPORT from the tabs at the top of the screen. Follow the prompts to upload the file you just saved to your hard drive. There should be a "browse" option to make it easier to get the right path. Click GO when you're ready. After that, it'll do everything necessary on its own.

I'm assuming the target db is either empty or useless and you'll be overwriting the contents with the information from the other db.

HTH!

Re: Customer able to select Credit card even though it's turned off in admin

Many thanks for the clear guide afo - much appreciated

The current database is being re-populated now so would I have to empty and do what you say or can I just replace the customer details?

Another thing I noticed with the older version, was the customers postcodes were always in the wrong position i.e. before the county, which meant I had to keep rearranging during posting their orders. Not sure if this may cause a conflict?

I think what I'll do is record the current customers email addresses and send them out separate newsletters. Not really a big deal but don't want the database to mess up again in the future.

Re: Customer able to select Credit card even though it's turned off in admin

The instructions I gave you will copy the entire database, but I believe you can do it on a table by table basis. I've never imported data into a populated db, only into empty ones, so I'm not sure if it overwrites or adds. Someone else may have a bit more experience doing that and chime in here.

I will do another duplicate of the shop so I can have a play around with the databases and what you suggest without touching the new database, so will know for the future.
