Buying event tickets for guests

I'm delighted to have found Zen Cart after having waded through dozens of other "highly-rated" ecom systems which ended up being bloated, cumbersome, weak, old or expensive. So, newbie to Zen Cart, and enthusiastic!

One project I'm working on is selling "admission passes" to events. Once a pass is purchased, customer name is added to an invitees list, which is then used to manually check in people at the door. A customer needs to be able to buy multiple passes (for guests, etc.), and obviously the name and contact info of each guest needs to appear on that invitees list. Is this doable via normal Zen Cart instructions (haven't digested Zen Cart documentation thoroughly enough yet to figure this one out!), or is some custom coding necessary?

Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Re: Buying event tickets for guests

If it can be sold, it's likely Zen Cart can sell it!

Welcome aboard!

There will be some manual intervention with what you are proposing - allocating unique identifiers to the passes once they have been bought.

And I think that would apply with all generic webshop software. It would be quite an expensive feature to build bespoke, but do you need that level of automation...

A very powerful feature of Zen Cart is its ATTRIBUTES feature - you set up a product, then give it variable attributes:

EG:

I sell shoes...

Style A, priced at $25
Style B, priced at $45
Style C, priced at $65

Each style comes in seven different sizes, and five different colours. On two of the styles I have pink bows, that add $2 to the price IF the customer selects them.

So, I need to be able to set up these products in a manner which allows the shopper to make selections about what STYLE, they want, what COLOUR they like, what SIZE they need... and if they want the bows included as well, they must be charged the extra $2.

You are selling passes.

Pass Type A, priced at $10
Pass Type B, priced at $100
Pass Type C, priced at $1000

A customer can by ONE pass... or he/she can buy FIFTY passes.

Included in Pass Type C is a free ice-cream (but the customer can choose not to have it)

So you can ALSO add attributes to your passes - just like you can to shoes.

SELLING the passes, with all the attributes is quite a straight forward process.

You will receive orders such as this:-

Customer buys
20 Type A Passes, = $200
(And give you names of 20 people)

14 Type B Passes, = $1400
(And gives you names of 14 people)

09 Type C passes, = $9000
(And gives you names of 9 people)

When you receive this order, you print / configure / manufacture the passes as you would any admission ticket, and (outside of zencart) compile a LIST of names, based on the ticket numbers, event in question, etc, etc...

The real beauty of zencart in this scenario is that you can easily expand your business and sell T-shirts for the events - or have people pay for their meals/beverages in advance...

The possibilities are endless.

WOW! ZenCart support looks to be as good as, if not even better, than ZenCart itself! Thanks for validating my decision to run with Zen and also, of course, for pointing me in the direction of product attributes. I am truly grateful, and really impressed.

Re: Buying event tickets for guests

Hey

I`m also trying to do this.

But where can the costumer put the names of the 14 guest?

The only thing I can come up whit s to use the comment area.
Thats not realy werry nice.

So I have tried to make a new collum "produkt_guests" in the table "orders_products".

I have also made an new product-type fore this produkt.
The only diffrence by now is thet this produkt-type makes an inputfor for every guests one the confirm-order-page right under the produkt.

But can someone please tell me hvere or what to edit so I get the variables form my new little form to the new collom in orders_products when adding the order?

I`v tried to use normal _$post to get it in the file modules/checkout_process.php but no luck, it seem to be gone.
