Dial-up vs. high speed customers
What to do?
What's the best way to keep a site from not bogging down for dial-up customers? I read a post here about using 2 size product images.

FlaDevil,
That's the bulk of it. The idea is that Zen Cart serves up different sizes of pictures in different contexts. Front page: small pictures. Product page: bigger pictures. If you only have a big picture on your server, then instead of sending a small picture you're sending a big picture and telling the users browser to squeeze it down to fit in a smaller area. Why do that, when you can just send a small picture instead?
If you understand why you have to use image optimization, Ryk has written the go to piece on how:

There's also Image Handler 2, which is an add-on that does the work for you if you have the appropriate php libraries.
A more advanced, and less rewarding, option for reducing bandwidth is compressing your CSS file. There are web applications that will strip whitespace and comments from your css to make it as small as possible.
Hope this helps,
Joe

J,
Thanks.
I saw this link before, but didn't read all the way thru it. I think I have it working with the 3 images.
It'll be a bit time comsuming, but hopefully it'll be worth it.
thank
