infinite # in stock, and automatic set to download.

I just realized I have a couple minor problems with downloads. I will be selling ebooks and actual products, and I'm not sure how to set an infinite number of items in stock (or remove stock for a particular product).

I also want it to be set as a download by default. I've read the posts on how to get downloads to work, and it is kind of working. I have to check the box in order for the download to work, which I fear many buyers will miss. So my question is, how do I get certain products to automatically be set to download?

Downloads are NOT Virtual Products ... do not mark them as such

If tracking stock, set the quantity to 1 ...

Downloads do not have an inventory ... at this time ...

I'm sorry, but I'm still not sure how to remove the quantity underneath the image.

Here is my current setup:

Product is Virtual:No
Always Free Shipping:No
Products Quantity Box Shows:No
Product Qty Minimum/Max/Units:1
Product Qty Min/Unit Mix:Yes
Products Quantity:1

Something tells me I'm in the wrong place to remove it? This seems to change the setup in the cart.

Peek in the Catalog ... Product Types ... and select the Product Type to edit then click the EDIT LAYOYUT button ...

There are many customizations there for you ... :smile:

That changed it for all of the products, but thats good enough.

You could customize the code to only hide stock for downloads ...

It would take a bit of work but it could be done ...

I'm particularly interested because I also sell something that has no finite quantity. I already know how to make the catalogue not show the QTY. What I can't figure out how to make the catalogue stop tracking inventory for an item or item type. Sure, I could set the inventory quantity to 1,000,000 or so and then just reset it now and then, but I believe that software should be able to handle simply *not *removing inventory from certain items.

What am I failing to notice about Zen Cart for handling this? :huh:

When Downloads are setup correctly, they do not alter the stock on the products_quantity and you can just set the products_quantity to 1 ...

I still would like to see some resolution for those of us with an infinite number of products. If anyone knows how to just remove the feature altogether from the cart I'd appreciate it.

If you want Zen Cart to treat all products as unlimited and to not track stock, you can simply change Admin->Configuration->Stock->Subtract Stock to false.

Or, as it's built at present, it will automatically skip stock tracking for downloadable products.
