pics page - customer photos pages?

OK, so you have worked with me and humored me, and I have made great progress. Thank you.

While I am gaining a better understanding of how this php works, I see a problem down the road that I would like ot address now.

On my current site, I have several pages that show 05+ Mustangs with different color stripes, with different aftermarket body parts. While I marvel at how much simpler this layout is, I am not sure how I can set up these pages.

Ideally, they would be thumbnails with a little text IE torch red mustang with slate metallic stripes" .....

How can this be accomplished?

Is this page just for looking or do you want this to be part of your product pages?

Like 10" Stripes and then the different colors as attributes of the same product?

I would like to have this master page just for looking.

I would also like to be able to place more than one photo with the product (although the latter option is probably something simple in admin)

People love this page because they can look at customer cars to judge what colors they like for their own car.

If these are going to remain "gallery" pics than you could use ez-pages for it. You may be able to use the same html to create the page. You should also be able to shut off left and right columns on those pages so you can maintain the current width.....And if you use TOC then you should be able to have next/previous buttons to move through the gallery pages. Hope I've provided some clue as how you can accomplish this.

Additional images on the product info pages are automatic and rely upon correct image naming i.e.

image.jpg
image_1.jpg
image_2.jpg
etc

then the main image displays and the additional images also display. The caveat is that the root/base image name must be unique or not like:

the way it works is example:
main product pic: mustang.jpg
additional image 1: mustang_01.jpg
additional image 2: mustang_02.jpg
etc.....

mustang is what ties them together so you have to watch if you have alot of current images that start mustang....they will all be considered additional images based on naming convention. I did find that I can use same image filenames when I break the images folder up into sub directories....seems to keep them seperated from each other. So basically depending on how you have named your current images you might have to spend some time renaming.

ok, so in my pic file for this product (12precut/) I have 8 images, titled image, image_1, etc..... I can only get the first image to show.

LOL I just noticed the thumbnail under the shopping cart options - image.jpg is showing as the primary image, while image_1.jpg is showing as a thumbnail..... but image_3.jpg - image_7.jpg are not showing........... a parameter in admin somewhere?

IT was already set at 3, I adjusted to 5, but still only seeing one additional image.

I got it!!!!!! in my early attempts, i had somehow managed to place files in the images master file, so it was going there rather than going to the 12precut/ file for it's images.

yes they are...... I resolved this issue, nowI am just wondering if I have multiple thumbnails associated with the post, will I end up excessively data heavy?

If this practice will not severely slow my pages, I might just add the thumbnails to each product listing instead of creating separate customer photo pages.

and so follows another rookie Q....... how do I optimize my images? They were optimized for web by photoshop before they were loaded, is this what you are referring to?

All of my core photos are photoshopped to 600x450. about 50K each for the originals.

So making some guesses here - You have it set for 5 images across or an image about 80x100 or so - these need not be 50K - as I said about only 2-4k each

They can be clickable to open a larger image like your 600x450 image and if you use the built in method of 3 images - image.jpg, image_MED.jpg and image_LRG.jpg these will automatically be used where indicated
