Template Question

I had a question about templates. Do they alter the functions of the system by removing things such as sidebars etc or do they just act like a skin and change the look and feel but not the functionality?

If they are done properly using the template override system, then they act like a skin and do not change the functionality.

Can we get a link to some templates please, perferably free :P

Check the downloads section at the top of the forum. You can see them in action at http://(sorry, site offline)/.

To create a very basic custom template (you can build from there), you need:
includes/languages/YOUR_TEMPLATE/english.php
includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/index.php
includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/header.php (to change the logo)
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_header.php
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_footer.php
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/images/logo.gif
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet.css

Any where you see a /classic/ folder, you can create a folder for your custom template. You can copy the necessary files from either the /classic/ folder or the /template_default/ folder.

wow very cool stuff thanks alot.

I uploaded the files to the places the install file said to but it's not showing that I have another templte in the tool/temple options.

this is the process I am following right now

The best and easiest way to install this template is to use your ftp client, and drag/transfer the complete contents of the includes folder to your ZenCart install.

As all of the files are structured like ZenCart and are contained in their own folders, you can determine where they belong and add them to the correct areas.

please help

I uploaded the includes folder to the ZenCart install, and also uploaded the template to the templates foler, still not showing, what could I have missed or skipped. thanks in advance

It's hard to say without being able to actually get "behind the scenes" of your site, but you might want to try uploading the template files again. Make sure there's a includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php for the new template. That's where the tools->template selection gets its info from.

Someone else might have a brighter idea than this, but that's my best advice for now.

YOUR_TEMPLATE <<<--- there the mistake thank you kindly sir.

ALRIGHT I got the template to display, so now I just have to set all the boxes to show, thanks for the help bro

cheers

I'm starting to set the sidebars back into place but I notice when I select the on option most aren't showing. Could this be because I have no info in these boxes yet? example of boxes that are not showing are

shopping_cart.php
featured.php
tell_a_friend.php
specials.php

Another question if you don't mind, I notice the taxes are not showing in the totals

thanks again

If I remember correctly, those boxes don't show if there's no content.
