So Just how Large of a Store Can Zen Cart Run?

My uncle runs a few websites devoted to selling barcoding and id equipment. He is all for asp and that microsoft stuff, but nothing is reasonable for a few new projects he has in mind. Since I'm zenned, not much yet, but anyway, he's interested if zen-cart could safely power his large catalog of 30,000 to 120,000 products

some top secret squirrell ideas are going down and well, do you think it can run that big of a store? what probs/concerns should we look at before deciding on this step:thumbsup: as always guys

this is a interesting thing.

I know a site or two with 450k+ I am pretty sure and convinced it can handle his store fairly easy.

Now how he runs it, is another story.

Running a large store is subject to the speed and optimization of the server ...

Even on the fastest server with the wrong optimization for MySQL and php you will have slow downs on small catalogs with just a few categories and products ...

Some are running sites with 1000s of products that manage things fine on speed but this will not happen on a poorly optimized server ...

Great news. I don't think this is a overnight turnkey ordeal haha! I think he's down with lettting me learn while at the same time making him something that doesn't cost a grip of $ from a asp provider. I guess at least, I don't see why someone would pay for a framework when a good one is free.

How he runs it is a interesting question, how does one forsee something of that magnitude on the biz side?

So, cool idea. He's very interested in the idea that is something is broken, he can call them and get help. Generally with open source, there's no one to call at all times. Great info.
