PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

I don't mind the alignment of the buttons I just want to put a good sized OR between the 2 buttons. I think that would definitely tell those who don't like Paypal that they have a choice. If anyone knows how to do that let me know. I don't do much to the code unless someone else has tried it out first

I did put the instructions up above to help the customer, but how many people read the fine print.

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

My Paypal Express button on shopping page was over to the left with shipping estimater" and "back to shopping" buttons.

I just added the below CSS in stylesheet.css near the bottom just under /misc/

#PPECbutton {
        float: right
        }

and this put it right under "go to checkout" (Perfect). But now my split page welcome log in area is messed up. The division line below the "New Customers" with the Paypal button box is broken.:unsure:

By the way, I did this by trial and little knowledge of CSS, so there may be other areas messed up that I have yet to find.

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

To summarize Kim and Justwade's posts, the default v1.3.7 stylesheet contains this setting, which causes the PPEC button to be right-aligned on the shopping-cart page:```
.forward, #shoppingCartDefault #PPECbutton {
float: right;
}

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

Can't I use whatever button I choose on MY website? If you say do not just manipulate their button, ok, how about I create one myself?
Last I checked NO you cant change this button, and this is the approved graphic for paypal express.

they want it to be gaudy and stand out,

I think with the standard text and buttons, we basically give the impression Paypal express checkout is what we want them to (make them) use.

I would like to give a more balanced approach and offer Paypal express as just an additional checkout option, keep it low key and not promote it as my first choice.
Once again they want it to stand out,
this is why it has to be offered BEFORE any other payment options,
they want it to be your primary ( or at least appear that way )

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

OK Merlinpa,

I guess it is a take it their way or leave it situation.

I noticed on a friends website with Volusion cart, paypal is just a drop down option and not intrusive at all. Maybe it is not the paypal express, I have to go an check again. They have a one page check out system as well btw, which I highly envy. I wish we would have that too.....

Thanks, this fixed my shopping cart and split log in error I described. :smile:

But what confused me was I thought I had the default classic 1.3.7 template stylesheet, and mine does not have this setting. I recall no reason for me to remove this so I just assumed everyone else had the button over to the left until they reworked it. :huh: I must go buy some Ginkgo Biloba now, mine ran out recently.

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

Ok, I got my Ginkgo, it must be working because it is starting to bring back bad memories.

I upgraded to 1.3.7 solely for the purpose of getting into the PayPal Million Dollar Promotion and to be listed on their Paypal Express store page hoping for more sales.

I was already using PayPal IPN with some success for about 3 months.

Upgrading can be a pain for some of us, myself very much included. I have had my share of headaches from my lack of experience with the open source environment of Zen Cart. The support here is the best, and allows us to get it done. Time and experience can make these things easier.:cool:

I went through this "Zen initiation" and made sure I qualified for all that PayPal Express wanted for this promotion.

  1. Sign up for the promotion.
  2. Offer PayPal Express Checkout before all other payment methods on your shopping cart landing page. No other payment methods may be displayed on pages before PayPal is presented.
  3. Display PayPal alongside other payment methods on the billing page at the end of the checkout process.
  4. Use only PayPal-hosted buttons and images.

I also put a Paypal credit card banner that shows up on every page for good measure.

But I got let down. Paypal would not let us be part of the promotion.

They for long time would not reply to my sign up. After pursuing them, I then got a standard email with a phone number to call for more info. It was a salesman who tried to upgrade us into some payment program of some sort, but as soon as he heard I was only calling about joining the promotion, he hung up, no good byes, no redirect, nada.

The folks at Paypal customer service itself are great. :smile: They really leave you feeling they are trying to help. They may misinform you, but you will feel good about it. I talked to a special merchant contact, and he informed me that you had to sign up for a new PayPal account "after" Feb. 1, 07 to qualify(???, I was on the phone with him in mid Feb.). I never was told this, and try finding that anywhere, at least I could not find it.

So they continually promote the Million dollar Promotion on your PayPal account after you log in with them to this day. Every time I see a sunflower in an add, I cringe. :censored: If you already have an account why the heck do they want you to try and sign up? :huh: (Yes the adds were in PayPal log in area way back before the so called Feb. 1st deadline).

I have tried to get answers to some of these and other contradictions, but PayPal does not reply, sort of leaves a bad taste in my mouth, just like the Ginkgo.:yuck:

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

PayPal is telling me:> This is very strange as we don't have a signup deadline for this promotion program (however, the 100M program ends on May 15). Can you help us find out who the merchant is? We need to follow up and find out who has been giving out this misleading information.

Justwade,
Can you please PM me with your paypal account address and your contact number so a knowledgeable rep can get a solution for you on this specific issue?

They seem eager to correct the internal problem.

*EDIT: Update -- PayPal is contacting you about this. *

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

in reply to:
.forward, #shoppingCartDefault #PPECbutton {
float: right;
}

Yes, this was missing on my stylesheet as well. Now I added it and the button aligns to the right as expected, BUT now buttons estimate shipping and paypal are overlapping the below header "Customers who selected the items in your cart also chose..." from the installed upsell mod. Any idea why? Do I need to add spacing info in the stylesheet somewhere?

I removed the align right statement again, for now, until I solve the problem.

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

In the May 10 patch, there is an updated tpl_shopping_cart_default.php which fixes some layout problems on that page. Perhaps this will help?
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56216
The details of this template adjustment are in another post in the PayPal Express Checkout forum section initiated by stagebrace several moons ago, even though this template file wasn't included in the patch until now.

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

As soon as I put

<?php require(DIR_WS_MODULES . zen_get_module_directory(FILENAME_CART_UPSELL)); ?>

all the way at the end in tpl_shopping_cart_default.php, I have still the same problem, buttons overlapping header of upsell.

For now I removed it so it won't look bad. I would like to add the upsell module again. Any more ideas how I can get the proper spacing going?

That is a design/layout question. This is the PayPal section.
Please take it to the appropriate forum. Perhaps Page Layout Issues ?
Or maybe to the Other Contributions section?
Thanks!

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

Well, the funny thing is, if the alignment statment is not in the css, the page is looking just fine, but the button is to the left. As soon as I put the suggested alignment code in the css, the whole page acts funny.

Are you saying I should just look for design advice how to solve this? Isn't this a Paypal Express problem in combination with a other mod?

Re: PayPal Express - is it a good idea?

The "Paypal Express" function code has nothing to with how this is displaying - some other part of the module might. Asking in Page Layout will get the attention of people with CSS/display experience.
