Express Checkout - Shipping vs. Billing Problem

I just had a sale go through yesterday where the customer's billing address is in France, but she set up a NY shipping address for her purchase. She confirmed that all was correct in the shopping cart for shipping, but when she paid for the transaction in Paypal, it came back to us with a ship to in France, with US postal rates! I'm on 1.3.7 with the USPS shipping module and Paypal Express module installed. This is the first time we've seen this, but it may also be the first time we've had this sort of transaction (intl. billing, domestic shipping, paid through Paypal). Seems as if there may be some kind of disconnect in how the modules are working with each other. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Express Checkout - Shipping vs. Billing Problem

  1. Is the only problem that they were charged US rates instead of international rates?

  2. Do you have the latest PayPal patch for v1.3.7 installed?

(It addresses some of the logic used to auto-calculate the lowest-cost shipping option ... which may be the problem that you just experienced.)

Re: Express Checkout - Shipping vs. Billing Problem

The customer was charged appropriately for shipping (domestic rate), but the problem is that the shipping address in admin was the international (France) address, not the address in NY. We initially thought that the customer had been billed the incorrect amount, but the customer emailed us to say that the package is supposed to ship to NY, not France. That's how we discovered the problem. Of course, I'm taking the customer's word for it, but she claims she was very careful in setting up the NY ship to address rather than her address in France.

I've updated all of the latest Express Checkout patches, including the one from 3/21.

Thanks for any help!

If the customer chose France in her PayPal account, it overrides the shipping address in Zencart. So, even if she input NY on your website, if she goes to PayPal and chooses something else as the shipping address, the NY one will be removed off the order and the one from PayPal will be placed there instead

Hopefully that made sense :P

Re: Express Checkout - Shipping vs. Billing Problem

That's largely correct.

Let me show a couple scenarios:

  1. Express Checkout from Shopping Cart page.
    a. customer goes to PayPal, logs in
    b. customer selects a shipping address (or adds a new shipping address)
    c. customer confirms to return to the store to complete checkout
    d. Zen Cart retrieves the shipping address from (b) above and calculates shipping based on this information.
    e. customer completes checkout.

  2. PayPal Express Checkout is selected from Checkout_Payment page (beside other payment options).
    a. customer commences checkout from the shopping cart page, NOT selecting Express Checkout button yet.
    b. customer enters/selects a shipping address and then chooses a shipping method + rate
    c. customer proceeds to checkout-payment page, where they choose PayPal Express Checkout option
    d. customer proceeds to Zen Cart confirmation page and clicks Continue to go to PayPal and complete payment.
    e. Customer logs into PayPal
    f. customer confirms funding method and shipping address (passed to it from Zen Cart)
    g. customer confirms the order amount and clicks Pay Now.
    h. customer is returned to Zen Cart to checkout-success page.

Basically, if the customer chooses the wrong address from within their PayPal account, Zen Cart follows that lead.

If you're saying that's not what happened, please post the various log files from that transaction for review.
