Re: site very slow even move to a dedicate server

Reduce size of images i.e.
http://sunriseimports.com.au/shop/includes/templates/template_default/images/logo.gif
at 91754 bytes
http://sunriseimports.com.au/shop/images/0701/cr-be2.jpg
at 172233 bytes..
http://sunriseimports.com.au/shop/images/0701/sh-b3.jpg
at 146377 bytes..
those are just sample from your index page and does not take into
account all other images there..
Result: slow loading site...

Also ensure that your new server has been setup properly to optimize MySQL and php and utilize your memory ...

I don't know your server specs but default settings are usually 100% incorrect for proper optimizaiton of a server ...

Re: site very slow even move to a dedicate server

Category Counts - Unless you absolutely need to display category count you might want to turn if off as well since I am sure that slows things down a bit.

Re: site very slow even move to a dedicate server

Agree with Misty

Those image sizes are killing your site,
There is no way it could ever be fast with the size of each page due to your images.
As for dial up speeds, forget it.

Get IH2 fast......
Once the images are tamed, you may find you don't need a dedicated server.

Re: site very slow even move to a dedicate server

Hey all,

I think I might be having a similar problem with my site being slow. I have sized images to what I think is correct using the _MED and _LRG folders. I have even talked with my host and they ran some tests and things seem to be working ok for them.

Could someone take a look at my site... www.onederrecords.com and see if loading information and images is slow for you. I would greatly appreciate it and if you know what else I might be able to do to speed things up, I am listening.

Thanks in advance.

Re: site very slow even move to a dedicate server

First hit to the site is slow as the server is not optimized to manage the gethostbyaddr ...

The rest of the site is slow as the server doesn't appear optimized for MySQL and php ...

You do not have enough to make this site slow ...

Speak to your hosting company about being moved to a less overloaded server or to better optimized their servers for php and MySQL ...

I've just checked your site and its very slow to load the first page. Took 10 seconds to load. Don't know how to get it to speed up though. I'm running broadband at 7.6 Mbps.

Hope this helps.

Re: site very slow even move to a dedicate server

First hit is slow if the server has not been optimized to manage the gethostbyaddr, this is done at the server level by the hosting site ...

If they cannot figure out how to fix this, other than get a new hosting site, you can turn this off in the Configuration ... Sessions ...

IP to Host Conversion Status
Convert IP Address to Host Address

Note: on some servers this can slow down the initial start of a session or execution of Emails

You also lose some information collected for display in the whos_online in the Admin ...

Re: site very slow even move to a dedicate server

I'm having some similar problems, so I figured I'd jump onto this thread and see what everyone thinks.

First, the URL: http://www.scarabproductions.ca/catalog

I have disabled the "IP to Host Conversion Status" option, and things didn't really seem to speed up.

Even the admin login page is slow to load, and it has to be the most lightweight page possible. The admin area is slow, etc.

The part of the domain not used by the store (http://www.scarabproductions.ca) loads very fast, so I have isolated this as either a PHP or mySQL issue, or possibly both. Now I'm handy with computers, but far from a expert - particularly with servers, etc.

I have complained to my host and they essentially said that if it isn't the cart package that's provided in my hosting plan, then they won't support it. We went back and forth and I told them that it's not the cart that needs support, it's your hosting that is painfully slow. They're just ignoring me now. :) Essentially I gave up and I'm ready to pull the plug and switch hosting companies (poor performance is one thing, poor customer service is another), but I'd like to see if there's anything that I can do because I'm not sure if I can spend the time to switch hosts for a few weeks.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

James

Re: site very slow even move to a dedicate server

Your site just appears to be a dog ...

Check with your hosting site to see if you are on a really overloaded server or what the problem might be ...

You do not really have enough to your site to even begin to be this slow ...

There appears to be little to no optimization of MySQL or php to manage this site ...

For giggles ... you could install into a test directory and use a test database the clean, untouched Zen Cart v1.3.7 with the demo products so that we can see a "known" entity of a shop ... but I really cannot see anything out of the ordinary with your shop ...

Personally ... those neat Zen Cart Certified Hosting sites sure look good on that link for Hosting at the top of your site ...
