Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Make sure you dont have any empty zone taxes set up for the state. That could be causing the $0.00 sales tax as well.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Still having the same problem with Tax $0.00 Showing Up in checkout total. If we turn off Modules --> Order Total --> Tax but Leave Local Sales Tax on... No Tax shows up at all see attached screen shot. But if we turn it on then we get Two tax listings one the correct one under local sales tax and another just $0.00. I deleted all the other Zones for our state etc If it helps I reset the admin to what I sent before...

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I found it!!
It wasn't the Local Tax Mod at all, it was a cart admin setting.
The setting can be found under Configuration -> My Store -> Sales Tax Display Status

When turned on this setting displays sales tax even when its $0.00!
I have turned it off and no more $0.00 sales tax!

Mystery Solved!

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

If I am dealing with a couple hundred zip codes, does anyone know a way to import the data into the DB and have is show up properly in this Mod?

Having to type one-by-one is going to take a long time.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

There is no specific set up for uploading data, but it can be done. I guess it would depend on whether or not you currently have the needed data in some type of file or database that can be used to create an upload.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I have the data in an excel spreadsheet. I have hundreds of zip codes all with varying degrees of % above the flat state rate.

If I could import these it would save me hours and hours of input time.

Is there a standard format for the data to be imported? Meaning

zipcode | taxrate | name | (etc) ????

Once I have the excel file, where in the DB do I import?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

The fields that you need to populate are:

zone_id = zen cart zone id to apply tax to

local_fieldmatch = what field in the order table to base tax on for zip code it would be postcode

local_datamatch = actual data we are matching should relate to local_fieldmatch (ie. "Sacramento", "90001")

local_tax_rate = rate to apply

local_tax_label = Label that will appear in cart checkout

local_tax_shipping = true/false to apply specific tax to shipping

local_tax_class_id = tax class id to apply rate to

I have to admit, this is the kind of situation where I tend to get a bit lazy and pull the data into MSAccess to organize.
I might be able to help you get the data into an sql file to upload once you get it ready to go.
What state is this for?

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I am setting this up for New York.
I am working on getting every zip code with the proper percentage increase from the base state rate.

I found reference online that placed every zipcode within a specific county.

I can get this into a single excel spreadsheet with the columns you posted above.
If you could look over my file before I were to import that would he a great help.

Have to looked at this post?
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=476294&postcount=103

bushkillfarms posted his zip code sql for NY.

Just didn't want you to put time into this if this file will work for you.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Wow. I have been searching the forums for info on NYS sales tax info and never came across this. Spent the entire afternoon setting this up. Oh well.

Thank you for this. If you could, tell me where I should import this sql file and I will be well on my way.

Many thanks!

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

In the cart admin go to Tools -> Install SQL Patches

From there you can either upload the sql file or copy and paste the contents of the file.

That should do it!

Good Luck,

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I have everything in place but state tax is not being calculated and added, only the local tax (this is for New York State).

I saw the thread where you were talking with bushkillfarms and posted a fix. However, I downloaded the version of Local Sales Tax Mod from the start of this thread. The readme.txt files mod date is Mar. 30, 2007. I'm thinking I am not running the most recent release.

Do I need to download from here and go through the update process?
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=623

How do I check to see what version of the mod I am running?

Thanks!

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Sorry to repost but the editing function was not working:

I have everything in place but state tax is not being calculated and added, only the local tax (this is for New York State). I have a 'taxable goods' class setup under Locations/Taxes->Tax Classes. And under Locations/Taxes->Tax Rates I have " Taxable Goods New York 4%" But the state tax does not show up:

I saw the thread where you were talking with bushkillfarms and posted a fix for a similar type of issue. However, I downloaded the version of Local Sales Tax Mod from the start of this thread. The readme.txt files mod date is Mar. 30, 2007. I'm thinking I am not running the most recent release, the one that may address this issue.

Do I need to download from here and go through the update process? Or is the version I am running the most recent?
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=623

How do I check to see what version of the mod I am running?
How do I fix this?

Thanks so much for your help and this great mod!

Yes, you need to download the latest version from the downloads section. If you downloaded the mod from this thread then you do not have the latest version.
If you used the NY zip code file from bushkillfarms then your tax table should be ok and you wont need to do any patching of the sql table. You only need to update the files and reinstall the mod.

Here is how:
You will need to copy over all the new files (overwritting the old version of the mod). Then go into the cart admin and remove and reinstall the mod.
Modules -> Order Total select the local sales tax mod and click the remove button, once it has been removed then click the install button. Modify the settings to your liking then click the update button.

Thats all you should need to do.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

Followed the directions to a 'T'. Copied over each file individually to the proper location.

When I go back into:

locations/taxes->local sales taxes

I get this on screen:

1054 Unknown column 'st.local_tax_class_id' in 'on clause'
in:
[select count(*) as total FROM (shop1_tax_rates_local st LEFT JOIN shop1_tax_class tc ON st.local_tax_class_id = tc.tax_class_id) LEFT JOIN shop1_zones z ON st.zone_id = z.zone_id]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.

Do I need to run the SQl upgrade files?

(3) Run the upgrade_1.0to1.1.sql file
(4) Run the upgrade_1.1to2.0.sql file

Thanks for sticking with me on this!

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

It looks like there is a problem with the NY SQL file and the table name creation.
I am attaching a correct file and will contact bushkillfarms to let him know about the problem.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

I actually corrected his file before I ran it. So I do have the right table names in my install.

Still have those error messages and wonder if I need to run those SQL updates that are in your upgrade?

Thanks!

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

You can try to run them, but you shouldn't need to. The updates only added the new fields to the table, and the NY sql file already had them.
I'm not sure what else to suggest other than to make sure you copied over all the new files and to make sure the data table has all the necessary fields.

Re: Local Sales Tax Mod (with admin!) for testing

ok. We did a complete reinstall of everything with the current, latest version of the mod and the updated file you posted. Things are working.

Found that none of the items in our catalog had been set to "taxable goods" status. Once that was done. the state tax showed up. However, the state tax being calculated is 'off' by a few cents.

For example look at the New York State Tax calculated here:

1090.00

  • 13.40
    = 1103.40
    x 0.04
    = 44.136

Not 43.60

I have double and triple checked my Tax Rates:

Taxable Goods New York 4%

Other than this I have it running perfectly. Thanks for any insight on this.

And one last question. If we are going to need reporting of these taxes on transactions, what do you recommend?
