2 items to ship - 2 different prices

I am sorry if this has been answered but I cannot find the thread if so.

A simple scenario:

Buy a CD and the customer pays £3.00 for shipping

Buy a Vinyl and the customer pays £5.00 for shipping

So firstly, how do I set this up?

In Shipping Modules I have Per unit perweightunit and all the display weight options are turned off on the site.

I am not sure what the next step is though.

Also, what to do if a customer orders 1 of each - charge £8.00 - which seems excessive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Re: 2 items to ship - 2 different prices

The Per Unit perweightunit Shipping module could be used where you set the products_weight to either 3 or 5 and then this shipping module will calculate the shipping as:

products_weight * quantity * unit price

5 * 1 * 1 = $5.00
5 * 2 * 1 = $10.00

2 Vinyl + 2 CD:
(5 * 2 * 1) + (3 * 2 *1) = $16.00

Re: 2 items to ship - 2 different prices

Thank you Ajeh,

That would have worked fine except it now has to change to include the following:

U.K.

7" Singles, CDs, DVDs & Cassettes

1st Item: £1.30
Extra Items: £0.30

 12" Singles, LPs, Fanzines & T-Shirts
 **1st Item:** £2.50

Extra Items: £0.50

**Europe**

7" Singles, CDs, DVDs & Cassettes

1st Item: £2.50
Extra Items: £0.50

 12" Singles, LPs, Fanzines & T-Shirts
 **1st Item:** £4.00

Extra Items: £1.00

United States and Canada

7" Singles, CDs, DVDs & Cassettes

1st Item: £3.50
Extra Items: £0.75

 12" Singles, LPs, Fanzines & T-Shirts
 **1st Item:** £6.00

Extra Items: £1.25

I am totally stumped as to how to do this.

Alternatively, can it be done manually by the customers themselves with an amount being added to the total ?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Re: 2 items to ship - 2 different prices

To do all of that you really need a truely customized shipping module made for your site ...

You are trying to set not only a price per product, but a price per product plus additional charge based on product where each product has its own settings ...

You have multiple product types so to speak where there are sets of products as in the vinyl sizes but there are more than one with these sizes ...

So you are not really a per item, nor a per weight nor a per quantity but rather a miscellaneous conglomeration of all of these ...

Thus ... you are heading towards the need of a truely customized shipping module for your site and need to have this built based on your products and/or categories or some type of trigger to manage all of this properly and in addition ... toss in zoning to boot ...

Re: 2 items to ship - 2 different prices

Thanks Ajeh,

I kind of suspected this to be the case.

So, two options open to me here:

  1. Is anyone up for a paid customization [this week]? if so, please say so here and tell me how to get in touch with you.

  2. I can list the prices on a separate page and have customers work out the cost of shipping themselves. The only trouble is, how do they then add this cost to their shopping cart total?

Thanks if anyone can help.

Custom shipping module is the solution ...

Customers cannot be expected to shop and compute their own shipping ...

Posting in the Commercial Help Wanted might be the best solution for finding someone to customize this for you ...

You may PM if you don't locate anyone to write this for you and still need to hire someone ...
