Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

Hi All,

Is the stock Zen Cart shipping estimator able to correctly estimate shipping for guests (i.e. not logged-in) using the UPS module (my store is in a UPS covered zone of U.S.A.)?

Zen Cart v1.3.7 [2007-01-18 02:09:59] (Fresh Installation)

I ship with UPS only. The estimator shows a blank for guests, but works fine for customers logged-in.
My UPS module settings...
UPS Pickup method:
RDP
UPS Packaging:
CP
Residential Delivery:
RES
Shipping Zone:
none

I've been scouring the forum for a definitive answer on this question, but need some clarification. I did see a post from Merlinpa saying the UPS shipping estimator did not work for guests when UPS Packaging = CP

If the answer to this question is no, do I need to install the 3rd party UPS XML module, or ...?

Thanks in advance,
Craig

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

When not logged in ... if you do not pick an address in the Shipping Estimator there is nothing for UPS or USPS etc. to quote ...

You could add a bit more text in there to say ... pick an address to get a quote ...

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

Hello Linda,

Thanks for the reply.

Hmmm...Makes sense. I guess what's confusing is that the State & Zip fields are there in the estimator form, which in other Zen Carts I've shopped are the only user information required to generate a shipping estimate...(looking for link as example.)

Am I doing something different than other folks using UPS shipping? Is there a way to generate a quote (albeit rough) through the UPS shipping module with only State & Zip?

Thanks again,

Craig

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

When not logged in you are asked where to ship ...

When logged in you set to your address or allowed addresses are in a dropdown to select from ...

In any case, UPS and USPS must have an address to get a real time quote ...

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

Linda & All,

My bad (big surprise, no...? ;^)

Seems back in 1.3.0.2 I made a tweak to:
includes/templates/custom/templates/tpl_modules_shipping_estimator.php

Then I inadvertantly carried it forward into 1.3.7.
Once I removed the custom template file all was right with the UPS module and Shipping Estimator.

So, feeling empowered to answer my own question; Yes, the Zen Cart stock Shipping Estimator will generate a shipping quote with only the State and Zip when a guest is not logged in.

Thanks again for your help,

Craig

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

Just realized the problem ...

You are trying to use UPS from outside the US ... the UPS that comes with Zen Cart is for the shipping from the US ...

You would need to use the UPSXML which is in the Wiki in the 3rd Party Downloads ...

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

Hello Linda,
I have a UPS Module problem on a fresh intall. I do not get any ups rates, all I get is this. I already checked my postal code in Shipping/Packaging; it was working on a live site, then all of the sudden it stopped working so I did a test fresh install (V 1.3.7) and I get the same error, do yo think my hosting service is blocking UPS.
How does the module work, how does it get the real time rates?

2013 Lost connection to MySQL server during query
in:
[select cd.categories_name from atestcart_categories c, atestcart_categories_description cd where c.parent_id = 0 and c.categories_id = cd.categories_id and cd.language_id='1' and c.categories_status=1]
2006 MySQL server has gone away
in:
[select count(*) as total from atestcart_sessions where sesskey = '6700bf0c731428b1503e9967331abe14']

Warning: Unknown(): A session is active. You cannot change the session module's ini settings at this time. in Unknown on line 0

I also tried the UPSXML but it does not work.
Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for all the help.

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

What has your hosting site changed?

Does sound like there could be a server issue with your database or something with your site causing this ...

I'd ask your hosting site about the error message you are getting to see what they have to say ...

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

Hi

Take for example if I have a shop in Singapore and Japan. How should I tell the website that this shop is base in Singapore and delivery should base on UPS Singapore rate? Then delivery from Japan should base on UPS Japan rate.

Thank you.

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

UPS and USPS are received live ...

For outside the US you need to use the UPS XML version ... this should be in the Wiki in the 3rd Party Downloads ...

Try FedEx ... I am not sure if they have a separate server or not on that as I have not heard of anyone off the top of my head needing to have a different module written ...

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

UPS module that comes with Zen Cart works from the US only and connects to UPS server to get a rate quote ...

If you want to get quotes from somewhere other than the US then you need the 3rd party software for UPS XML which connects to an entirely different server and requires an account ...

Look in the Wiki for 3rd Party Contributions ...

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

Hello!

I have a similiar problem to the post that started this thread. When a cutomer is not looged I the shipping estimator doesnt work. It seem the value for State is not be captured or passed as it always comes back "Please Select" even though it was selected. Any idea how to correct this? Thanks! PGT

Re: Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

I am working on a setup where the client wants to print UPS labels from within the Shopping Cart application. Is that an option / possible? If someone is doing that I would really appreciate knowing and how to do it.

I know that some carts do this.

Thanks!

I too am about to set this up. I haven't seen any info on it yet, but if worse comes to worse, I can get it to work with the UPS Shipping API.

Our UPS Tech guy told me that he knows of others with zen-cart that print the labels out from the back end of zc. The principal is that you send the required data to UPS via XML (using the XML Shipping Application...) and basically it returns an image / gif or something that you can store on your server and batch print, etc. I'm surprised I don't see more info online about it, but it's my instinct that says people don't want to share their hard worked code for fear competitors will get the same advantage...but without spending the labor to figure it out.

If you find any good links or info on this, please post for me (and everyone else of course) & I'll do the same if / when I figure more out.
