Server Optimization Help!

I have been reading on the boards about other's sites that are going very slow or load very slow. From what I have read it has to do with the server not being optimized for ecommerce and it is something the host has to do on the server end.

i sent an email to my host, ivhosting, telling them i needed it optimized on the server side, etc...and this is what they sent back to me:

if you need to adjust PHP settings you can do this by setting up your own php.ini file in public_html directory or sub-folder. We do not adjust default server settings for particular users as this is shared hosting. If you require custom configuration you may consider getting a dedicated server.

Any ideas on any of this? I am so lost.

If you don't know what you're doing, then your best option would be to switch to one of the Zen Cart Certified Hosts (see the partners link at the top of the page).

I just switched to one of the zen certified hosting and what a HUGE difference in service and knowledge. My site should be fully switched by this afternoon. Thank you!

I am on a Zen certified host now but my Build a Gift Bag page still takes about 7 secs to load. Any idea on why this one page is taking so long to load?

Let us know an URL to this working product on the new site when it is up so we can see it ...

It is the Build a Gift Bag page. Everything else loads fine just that one page is slow.

Just visited... took 20 seconds to load that page on my fast
cable connection

Doesn't seem to be too much wrong with it from the "official" point of view...but it did take about 8sec to appear on my screen. Doing a Traceroute, I show a slowdown at 216.218.254.205 AS6939 HURRICANE (pos3-3.gsr12416.pao.he.net.) which is hop 5 of 8 from me.

Unfortunately ... that is a product from hades ... :eek:

You could try to customize the attributes.php module to manage the calculations for that particular products_id to skip several sections of code that is not required for its calculation ... which may speed that up some ...

Zen Cart v1.4 ... no it is not ready yet and will not be for some time ... will manage products like this way more efficiently to avoid gobstoppers like this product ...
