setting up tiered navigation

Hi all,

I would like to know how to set up tiered navigation in zen cart. So I could have a top level link "Body Care" with sub categories "Soap", "Deodorant", "yada yada yada". It would be nice if a user clicks on the top level link and gets shown a page that contains some products from each of the sub categories, aswell as the links to the subcategories. play.com uses this kind of system for example.

p.s. if anyone can tell me how to set up image subfolders by category that'd be sweet. At the moment all my images are lumped into the images directory which is going to get nasty in time.

Thanks
T

Re: setting up tiered navigation

The Product Listing shows the subcategories or the Products of a Category ...

As you navigate through the Categories Tree, depending on the level of Products to the Category you will see Centerboxes for the New Products, Featured Products, Specials and Upcoming Products based on your settings in the Configuration ... Index Listing ...

Each set of Centerboxes uses 0 = OFF and any other value is the Sort order of the displayed Centerboxes that are triggered by that Category depth ...

Depending on how your Categories are setup ... some pages could be empty as there are not any Products that meet the criteria ...

Re: setting up tiered navigation

Hi ajeh,

I don't fully understand what you mean here. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere but what I thought was that I could define a category that can have sub elements that are products and/or categories.

cat: hot drinks -
| -product: generic hot drink!
-cat: coffee -
|-product: curly's coffee;
-cat: tea -
|-product: green tea

At the moment I can only define a category with products so my category tree is only one node deep.

Thanks
T

Re: setting up tiered navigation

A Category can hold Products or Categories ... but not both ...

When there is a Product the New Category button disappears ...

When there is a Category the New Product button disappears ...

Do you have Products in your Top Level Category?

Re: setting up tiered navigation

 I've see what you mean now. When you create a new category you can add products or categories to it. Thanks for helping me out.
