Define page status - settings don't appear to be working?

In Configuration > Define Page status I set

Conditions of Use - 0
Site Map - 0

but... both links are still showing up.

On the other hand Define page 1, Define page 2 and Define page 3 are set to 1 but they don't show up in the box...

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

doug

Re: Define page status - settings don't appear to be working?

There are multiple settings for the Defined Pages Status:

Define Conditions of Use
Enable the Defined Conditions of Use Link/Text?
0= Link ON, Define Text OFF
1= Link ON, Define Text ON
2= Link OFF, Define Text ON
3= Link OFF, Define Text OFF

0 means Show the links but not the text ...

OFF is actually 3 for Link OFF and Text OFF ...

Or, to show the TEXT but no Link use 2 ...

NOTE: This also depends on your template and whether or not the code is current to utilize these settings ...

What does it mean to show a link without text?

For the "define pages 1, 2, 3" they are all set to 1 but don't show up - is that strange?

Thanks,

Re: Define page status - settings don't appear to be working?

Here is an example of the code for the more_information sidebox:

// test if links should display
  if (DEFINE_PAGE_2_STATUS <= 1) {
    $more_information[] = '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_PAGE_2) . '">' . BOX_INFORMATION_PAGE_2 . '</a>';
  }
  if (DEFINE_PAGE_3_STATUS <= 1) {
    $more_information[] = '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_PAGE_3) . '">' . BOX_INFORMATION_PAGE_3 . '</a>';
  }
  if (DEFINE_PAGE_4_STATUS <= 1) {
    $more_information[] = '<a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_PAGE_4) . '">' . BOX_INFORMATION_PAGE_4 . '</a>';
  }

Those switches determin if you see the links in the sidebox ...

The pages themselves have the ability to turn off the display of the text you define ... example page 2 is run by the tpl_page_2_default.php and uses the code:

<?php if (DEFINE_PAGE_2_STATUS >= 1 and DEFINE_PAGE_2_STATUS <= 2) { ?>
<div id="pageTwoMainContent" class="content">
<?php
/**
 * load the html_define for the page_2 default
 */
  require($define_page);
?>
</div>
<?php } ?>

That determins should the text of the define be displayed ... again based on the setting of the switch in the Configuration ... Define Pages Status ...

Note: if your code is old or lacks these proper settings ... then things will not work as intended and the code needs to be updated or other customization is required ...

Re: Define page status - settings don't appear to be working?

But what does it mean to have the text off but the link on?

Re: Define page status - settings don't appear to be working?

The sideboxes have a link ... something to click on ... in them for getting to, for example, Page 2 ...

Page 2 itself has the ability to pull in the text that you wrote up in the Define Page Editor ...

If you turn ON the link for Page 2 then you see the link in the sidebox ...

If you turn OFF the link for Page 2 then you do NOT see the link in the sidebox ...

If you turn ON the TEXT for Page 2 then when you go to Page 2 you see the TEXT that you defined in the Define Page Editor ...

If you turn OFF the TEXT for Page 2 then when you go to Page 2 you do NOT see the TEXT that you defined in the Define Page Editor ...

Sorry, I seem to be missing a fundamental concept here.

Right now for Page 2 the setting is "1" which means I should see the link and text. Which text, exactly? "Page 2"?

If I go into the Define Pages Editor for Page 2 it says:

<p><strong>Page 2 Sample Text ...</strong></p> <p>This section of text is from the Define Pages Editor located under Tools in the Admin.</p> <p>To remove this section of the text, delete it from the Define Pages Editor.</p>

I just don't get it....

The other pages - like "privacy notice" seem to work as expected. But I don't get the settings for this one or what it means by showing a link but NOT showing text...

Re: Define page status - settings don't appear to be working?

There are many sideboxes in Zen Cart ...

You have turned on the sidebox called:
sideboxes/information.php

You have turned off the sidebox called:
sideboxes/more_information.php

Page 2 is in the sidebox called:
sideboxes/more_information.php

Turn on that sidebox in the Tools ... Layout Boxes Controller ...

Does the link work better for you?

Ookay. Thanks!

I turned on more_information and turned off pages 3 and 4 so just page 2 is showing in the more info box.

I still don't understand what is meant by "show the link and not show the text" though.

How do I change the link text to say something other than "Page 2"?

Thanks...

Doug-

Have you thought to check out the Tutorials and FAQ section for the questions you have? Might be faster than waiting on someone to answer.

Re: Define page status - settings don't appear to be working?

Sometimes ... you have the text for some of the pages in the language files such as:
/includes/languages/english/your_template_dir/page2.php

Sometimes ... you are using the Define Page Editor ... which stores the text in:
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/your_template_dir/define_page_2.php

Sometimes you want the linked turned OFF ...

Sometimes you want the define page text turned OFF ...

Sometimes you want the linked turned ON ...

Sometimes you want the define page text turned ON ...

Sometimes we try to make this easier by giving you a switch or configuration setting ... so you do not have to think ... :cool:

Hi, Kim. Yes, I have found the Tutorials useful. I usually post here after searching there first.

But... I see somebody has posted an answer almost simultaneously with yours! :)

I think I am having a terminology confusion maybe.

What I don't understand is - what does it MEAN to have a link with no text in the link?

The other combinations all make sense to me. But a link with nothing to click on is what confuses me.

According to the Tutorial and FAQ section it says to modify page_2.php in order to change the name to something else.

I modified that, but the actual text in the link in the more info box still says "page 2". That's why I'm still confused.

Thanks,

Re: Define page status - settings don't appear to be working?

The "link" is a clickable link in the various places where said link may appear, such as the information sidebox or the site map, etc.

The "text" refers to the output content ... ie: the HTML code, content, text, copy, whatever you want to call it, that you typed into the Define Pages Editor for that particular page. In the case of the "Contact Us" page, for example, there is a spot "above" the address information where the Define Page content for define_contact_us gets displayed. If you have the "text" option for the Contact us page turned off in Admin->Config->Define Pages, then said "text" will not appear.
If you also have the "link" turned off, then the "link" will not appear either.

Re: Define page status - settings don't appear to be working?

I have a choice of a Link or No Link on the more_information sidebox to Page 2 ...

If I set this to Link No Text I see the LINK in the sidebox for Page 2 and when I get to Page 2 I see NO TEXT from the Define Page Editor that is for Page 2 ...

If I set this to Link YES Text I see the LINK in the sidebox for Page 2 and when I get to Page 2 I see TEXT from the Define Page Editor that is for Page 2 ...

So the text refers to the define page editor contents for that page? But why would you want a link that goes to a page which didn't display anything?
