How to Get Rid of Duplicate Search Results

I am setting up a CD shop. I am adding the same product to more than one category in some cases. For example a Tchaikowsky CD will also be listed in a general Russian Music category since I have collections of mixed Russian music to categorize as well. It makes sense to include Tchaikowsky under that. This way the consumer is more exposed to my goods.

Trouble is... searches will sometimes pull up the same CD with 4 duplicate listings!

Is there a way to prevent duplicate listings from being pulled up in searches more than once?

Clean install or an upgrade?

In a clean install, how did you install it?

If an upgrade, from what version to what and how did you do the upgrade?

If you switch to Classic template do things suddenly work correctly?
