Re: Euro symbol in email

What email client are you using?
What operating systems have you tested on?
Have you tested on some other computers and other email software too?

What is the email server? ie: what hosting platform are you using? what mailserver software is in use on it?

What CHARSET is your site using?

Re: Euro symbol in email

  1. have not tested on other computers or email software

It would be ideal to do so to see if you could see the same type of errors.

  1. hosting on linux /sendmail

If your related web hosting service also provides SMTP protocol, does it have the same results as your sendmail ?

  1. Not sure how to find out what character set the site is using

This can be found in your includes/languages/<your_language>.php file. For instance, this is for the english CHARSET setting:

// charset for web pages and emails
define('CHARSET', 'iso-8859-1');

If you're using the Euro language pack, what would be the CHARSET setting ?

Re: Euro symbol in email

I hate to bring back such an old thread but I am having the same problem as described here and cannot seem to find a solution.

I am working on a site that uses both English and Dutch, but only uses the Euro for currency. All emails are showing ? in place of the euro symbol.
I have tested in both gmail and outlook 2000.

The charset for both languages is set to iso-8859-1.
Transport method is PHP.
Mime is set to FALSE.
The site is hosted on a linux server.

I tried adjusting the "Convert currencies for Text emails" setting, but that is where I seem to be running into problems.

I entered £,£:€,€
But when I save it, it replaces the euro symbol with the numeric reference. & #8364;

After doing this, the email shows & #8364; instead of the ?.

Does anyone have any other ideas that I can try?

Re: Euro symbol in email

The solution i founded out :

use EUR instead of €.

In admin>configuration>e-mail options>Convert currencies for Text emails
just type : £,£:€,EUR

:wink:
