Show Top level Categories and 1st sub level categories in side box

I would like the categories box to show the top level categories and the 1st level of sub categories in the side box.

Something like this:

Top Level Category 1
1st level sub cat1
1st level sub cat1
1st level sub cat1

Top Level Category 2
1st level sub cat2
1st level sub cat2
1st level sub cat2

etc. etc. for all top level categories and their first level sub categories.
I thought this was a layout setting, but I can't seem to find it????

Take a look at this:

The default categories sidebox does not allow you to have all categories and subcategories auto-expanded simultaneously by default.

If you want that functionality, use one of the various contributor-supported categories sidebox contributions in the downloads area.

At the top of the page Downloads.

Thanks for responding. I checked the downloads section, but the only one that is close is
Expanded Category List

however, this won't work for me, b/c it expands all the way to the product level. I'm looking for just the top category and 1st sub category to be expanded.

I downloaded the files as suggested above and uploaded. What do I need to do next? Is their something I need to change in the config? Readme notes weren't very in-depth.

Can you decide which you want to show or will it show everything? For example, I would like to show subcategories but not the products.

Also does it show the subcategories or does it appear only once you roll your curser over the main category?

I am currently using the mod that was posted in this thread on post #5, however it displays all the way down to the Product level. This is too far! though I do love the mod, is there any other mod or a way to modify this one to have it stop at just sub cats!?

Example;

Shop by Brand:
-Vineyard Vines
Shop by Price:
-10-25

The expanded category mod is doing this
Shop By Brand:
-Vineyard Vines
-Blue and Yellow Shirt
-NEW red shirt

etc.

If you want only top cats and first subcats to show in the sidebox (or any other logically describable arrangement), try Categories Dressing with the Uncollapsed Categories option. You can choose one of a half dozen settings in the define file, or create a new one in the appropriate function if you know PHP.
