Exactly how do I back Up a MySql database?

I called my hosting company because I did not see any backup feature in the control pannel, they told me that the only way I could back up my sql database is with some sort of php administartion program, they suggested I use HeidiSQL_3.0_Setup.exe downloaded from here, http://www.heidisql.com, I can connct to the server and do all kind of things (that I wouldn't dare do) but I don't see any feature to backup the data base... please forgive me if i am confused, but just like I backup my site everyday before I start working on it, I would like to do the same thing for the database.... Before Zen Cart, I really never used mysql, so please forgive me for being green behind the ears....

Thanks

It's very rare indeed that a hosting company doesn't provide you with phpMyAdmin.

I took a look at the screenshots for the programme recommended to you and I'd advise against using it - as you are new to this.

If your hosts genuinely don't provide phpMyAdmin (please double-check with them) then installing phpMyAdmin is not too difficult, especially if you only need to use it for one database.

With phpMyAdmin you just need to click the 'Export' link to download a backup of your database.

Re: Exactly how do I back Up a MySql database?

No they don't. The control panel only lets me create (or drop) users and databases.... I think I'm going to have to download phpMyAdmin and install it on the web server.... I hope this is going to be easy.... I also found an add-on to back-up the database from the download section, I'm going to try this first (hopefully it is more strait forward)

Thanks

I'd install phpMyAdmin - and make sure to password protect the folder it is in.

Don't forget about the Backup MYSQL Plugin available in the downloads section. It's quick, easy to install and easy to use. Whether or not it is sufficient to have it as your sole database backup I can't say for certain. However, it certainly is better than nothing!

Good luck!

Does your option - **No Compression (Pure SQL) ** work?

What release of Zen Cart do you have?

Thanks.
