Zone Help.. pulling my hair out...

I've tried disabling zones, enabling zones, everything. I even have the book and can't figure this out. I know I've lost at least 3 sales this weekend and couldn't figure out why. Can SOME kind soul please walk me through how to fix this? I'd be forever grateful...:frusty:

Zone's can be tricky because it dosn't really show you all the info until you go deeper into the zone.

Plus there are a few places you have to go to set it all up correctly.

Can you tell me how want to have the zones setup?

Are you just using one zone, or several?

I'm going to look through the admin and see if I can explain it better.

I'm only using one zone, since I only charge tax when someone makes a purchase in the state I live in. Which is Washington.

The default after installation is Fla. Anyone know why Florida was chosen?

Anyway what I did was I took the Florida zone and edited it so that it became the Washington Zone.

So first, go to Locations/Taxes and choose Zone Definitions.
You'll see a zone there, then click on it and hit details.
This is where you edit the details.

Now Choose the country and hit update.

Click the back button.

click the edit button

chang the state and the name. Change the zone name, and the description. I used Washington State Tax.

Update.

Now hit Tax Rates.

Hit edit. Choose taxable goods, and the zone you want to define.

Now add the appropriate tax value into the tax field. Remember that it's a percentage. So don't convert to decimal and enter into this field. 8 percent is 8.0 not .08.

The priority field is simply where it's going to show up on the list. 0 top higher numbers below that.

That should be it.

Is that what you needed? Or am I oversimplifying?

Excellent 'for dummies' tutorial. I kept wondering how I put Florida in there and was afraid to edit it!

All the zones, definitions, taxes, classes etc are extremely confusing. Partly, I think, because there are so many postings referring to these things and we aren't all talking about he same things. I wish there was a glossary with a detailed, plain english, explanations or descriptions. It takes so much time to search and read. And just when I think I'm reading something that's just what I need there's a reference to search for a previous post.... rather than a link or explanation, I rarely find the post referred to. I've just started configuring my ZC, and I don't find the descriptions in the Admin panel for what it is I'm changing to be very helpful. I've ordered the book, hopefully I'll get this figured out!
