larger image popup to same small image

I need a little help here it's been 4 hours and there is not thread that explains the problem or has a solution. http://www.karengunna.com/k_zen/ click purses look for a purse image. click it. click 'larger image' and you'll popup to the same image. it worked before i added multiple images. THEY popup to the _lrg image but the original product doesn't. now i have batched images/a_kgunna/(small images).jpg " "/medium/(imagename)_med.jpg and " "/large/(imagename)_lrg.jpg ftp'd those two directories up and i have tried ftp'ing and just using zencart's 'add image to product' and all of the time now i click 'larger image' and get the same image. i have made NO changes to php files, only the admin and i switched back to the classic tmeplate and exactly the same thing happens. PLEASE HELP... and get this... there's no help at all in the $80 estart Zen Book! :frusty:

i read that one already i can assure you i had the image naming correct as well as the settings and the directory names. it worked once like i said then when i uploaded the rest of the files it stopped working. i have since removed them all and just have the large images scaled back. I scanned through the code and found some possible reasons in the php. i'm no expert but there is code in there that looks for the smallest image and allows it to post which is exactly what happened. i also have a backup cart installed on another domain and it functions normally. there is definately a bug somewhere between the admin and the php it controls. when i become more advanced at zen i'll track it down for now i'm stuck with scaled images that are huge. perhaps in the future the admin section will have a map diagram of what the small med and lrg images are called for quick reference. this i have found is seriously lacking in the book and the admin section, calling an image an image 25 times but adding terms product in front or behind it surely doesn't clarify anything. thanks for trying i'll try to update this post if i have time to waste on images in the coming days maybe find a bug and win a zen prize?!

twitchtoo, I'm getting a larger image on ALL of your purses. Everything seems to be working just fine. Maybe it could just be your browser cache?

thanks, i know i gave up like the other people and uploaded all the big pics just having zen auto scale. i bought the book scanned the forums there's nothing and i don't have time to fiddle right now. like i said in the last posting when i find the error i'll clearly spell it out ... assuming i can find it. I'm enjoying being stumped on define pages verses ez pages that seem to be stored in the database where i can't edit thier html via Dreamweaver... i'm not feeling the zen right now.

I too am having the same problem. From what I read in instructions, I'm supposed to be doing this-

images/bunny.jpg
images/medium/bunny_MED.jpg
images/large/bunny_LRG.jpg
I did that, then I tried to put them all in the https://www.thefabulousfarmhouse.com/images/
that didn't work either. Whichever size I load on the listing is what I get when I click on "larger image" link under the photo in the product listing page. It seems the only way around this, is to list the largest photo, which I'd really rather not do being as how I'll be having hundreds of items on the web page. If someone has an easier softer way, please let me know :) Thanks!

If this is happening to you, there is something wrong in your installation or usage, because it works perfectly for almost everybody.

Look in Configuration > Images and see if any of your settings are different from these defaults:

Product Info - Image Medium Suffix _MED
Product Info - Image Large Suffix _LRG
Small image filetype no_change
Small image background transparent
Watermark small images False
Small image compression quality 75
Medium image filetype no_change
Medium image background white
Watermark medium images False
Medium image compression quality 75

Cathy, it sounds like you did everything right with image names/locations, so I'm not sure what the problem could be.

Twitchtoo, from your post you didn't use the upper case _MED and _LRG that are necessary. Is this true?

Also, the ez-page information is stored as straight HTML, so you could edit an HTML file in Dreamweaver, then cut & paste the body code into your ez-page editor (in plaintext mode). You just need to make sure of the right place to cut so you don't get extraneous header info in the ez-page.

here's the problem, the image editing Fireworks was not communicating with Dreamweaver with upper and lower case filenames. I made a pile of manual filename changes and edited the admin section and still nothing worked upper and lower case never matched correctly. So it became really useless to rename 100 files then have to sort them into named directories for none of it to work. I can't imagine a more difficult way of 'organizing' images. So i just loaded the large files and let the pages bulk up until there's a simple fix that doesn't require more time i don't have.

I'm positive there is a mathematical way to scale an image then display the new size without the bulk of the original 'larger' file, and if i could code in php a little better i'd do it.

twitchtoo, you're in luck!! The've had it for quite some time now......it's called Image Handler 2, and it's in the downloads section. It does just precisely that.....scale down your images.

I think those are from the Image Handler 2 that my host installed on our site when he first set it up several years ago (v1.2.4). I didn't find it necessary for my purposes, so never transferred the IH2 files when upgrading, but the setting fields are still in the db.

Actually i encounter the same problem with you .
i don't install the image handle 2 ... so can i solve this problem without install it? any one can help ?

If you have the exact same problem, then i did notice on the karengunna site the path looks like this http://www.karengunna.com/images//a_kgunna/3zip.jpg

The two slashes in the path may be the problem, this is probably through incorrectly editing the product_details template

I had the same problem with two slashes, found it was the leading slash of the image path I uploaded with easy populate ie.
/categories/Bangles/AE20081120-016.jpg
image path should be:
categories/Bangles/AE20081120-016.jpg.

Now I have a problem! my images are in
http://www.amberon.co.uk/images/categories/Bangles/AE20081120-016.jpg I have also got http://www.amberon.co.uk/images/large/categories/Bangles/AE20081120-016.jpg and the medium folders in place, But all my images use the main image folder not the _MED or _LRG. My product info image is only 100x100 but is set to 200x200 in configuration images page and it still uses the lge image file I have to keep in the images/categories/Bangles/ folder.
The realy weid thing is that it works perfectly on my testing server, please help!!!!

:clap: Ive cracked it, well at least in my case.
For some reason it does not like uppercase extention .JPG this works fine for the main image but when it comes to the medium and large images it must be in lower case .jpg. Dont ask me why it must be somewhare in the code that interacts with the set up of the server as this problem is not on my testing server which has (had) the same file extensions as my live site. Is this a Bug?

I think others are having this issue as in my research theres a lot of Zen sites only using big images.

I would say the great majority of that is due to ignorance rather than uppercase file extension problems. I have seen lots who had no clue about file sizes, and quite a few who had problems following the instructions including the _XXX caps, but never saw a problem posted where the extension was uppercase.

I agree about the ignorance as I assumed the image was resized as in other carts until the instructions were pointed out to me. It seems a strange way of doing it though and why make it case sensitive. It still leaves the question, is it a bug that on some servers the uppercase file extension is not recognised in the large and medium folders and can it be sorted for other versions? It took me very many hours to track the problem down and it would be nice to save others the pain.

Hello, I know this is a long time ago but I stumbled on this thread trying to solve the same problem. I got carried away and named my main (small) images: imagename_small.jpg

I got rid of the '_small' part and all is well following the the _MED _LRG convention. I'm not sure if this should affect it but just in case someone else is looking for something to try, there you go!

Okay, I'm getting a similar, tho not same, error. I'm positive I have the naming correct, as when I right-click on the image it SAYS it's displaying the _LRG image, but it's resizing the LRG image to 150x150. First problem with that is that the images are not square, so it's making the proportions all incorrect. The second is that it's not the large image, but the proportions thing actually bugs me more.

It had been having this problem with medium as well, but I found and fixed the size in the Admin panel, and now the mediums are fine. I cannot, however, find where to fix the LRG size. I need these images to be displaying inside a "frame" of 350x350 (aka, the pics are either 350w or 350h, but not square). What file do I need to change to correct this?

my site is https://www.starks-ark.com/shop-new/ Any of the "Exo-Terra" products would have their images done. I haven't gotten the photos for some of the other manufacturers uploaded yet, but I'd like to fix this before I fight with my server over another 3000 files. (that way if I have to scrap the multiple size images, I haven't spend a week uploading them.)
