2 Hugely Frustrating Issues

  1. In the side box that lists Shipping & Returns, Privacy Notice, Contact Us, etc., I have turned off three of the listed items. In Firefox it's all good, but in IE it still shows the bullet points of the items that have been turned off. How do I get those to go away? Also, why is the site logo off in IE but right on in Firefox?? www.minglewoodsolutions.com

  2. I've seen this question on the board before, but no answers. How do I completely remove "Choose your language:" and the flag icons? It's not in a side box, it's in the header. I did a find an replace for "choose your language" on the back end, found it in a includes\templates\mytemplate\common\tpl_header.php file, deleted it, and all that happened was that the US flag changed to the world English. I've searched the entire site back end, and only found it in this one spot, so I'm stumped.

Re: 2 Hugely Frustrating Issues

I'm sorry, but you are going to have to talk to the folks that designed your template. There is no telling what has been done to the core code if things are not working properly.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Ummm...according to the information on my template, it was designed by The Zen Cart Team, which I believe is this the people that run this borad.

No, I'm sorry but, we did NOT design that template. Perhaps, it was purchased from Template Monster? It looks like one of theirs.

theme018

Is NOT ours. We have template default and classic. Period.

That is a Template Monster template.

So do you only offer help with your own templates? I mean can you give me an idea where to look to fix these issues?

Re: 2 Hugely Frustrating Issues

From bits I have seen, TM takes Zen Cart code and tweaks and modifies functionality all over the place, processing things through tm_ functions/variables. They are not just templates; they change core coding. It would require studying them at length to fully understand what they are doing and how.

Re: 2 Hugely Frustrating Issues

And from what I've seen with issues people have, run far away from TM templates. But that's just my .02.

The point Kim was trying to make here is that your template is NOT designed by the zen cart team,

The developers were not being rude but its hard to answer about something that they didnt have a hand in

This template was purchased from either template mmonster or one of its resellers,

you need to comtact tmonster from this board ( they own the company that produced your template ) and see if they can give you the answers you are looking for,

they have taken te zen cart design and turned into ( for lack of a better word ) the internet's version of Frankensteins monster and making money from it

Re: 2 Hugely Frustrating Issues

If you want to tackle fixing things yourself, you can study how the Zen Cart template system was intended to be used by following articles found here:
http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Customisation
and here:
https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php

Unfortunately, since Template Monster typically hacks things apart with no respect to retaining the built-in admin-side customization controls, you are left on your own to figure out what their designers did.

Zen Cart tries to make things quite flexible so that you have a minimum of need to edit any files. However, TM is only interested in turning out lotsa templates to sell them. They go for mass production rather than excellence. It's really a disservice to their customers.

You might be able to hire a designer+coder to help you do the edits you desire if the self-help links above aren't sufficient. To do so, feel free to post in the "Commercial Help-Wanted" section for bids on the work.

Re: 2 Hugely Frustrating Issues

Thank you all for your replies! I contacted the company I purchases the template from (not TM but can't remember off the top of my head who it was) and they actually sent me two replacement files that they said would fix the problems. Haven't had a chance to try them out yet, but will report back if they work.

Re: 2 Hugely Frustrating Issues

And they did work! Man, what a pain in the butt working with these outside templates! I think the site is going to look great when it's done though, and am really enjoying the ease of use of Zen Cart now that I'm past the learning curve. Thanks again to everyone that replied.
