Is it possible to specify actual price in another currency, rather than conversion?

Hi

I have been asked this by a few clients already so it seems this would be quite in demand...

Some of my clients who want to have multiple currency do not want to specify a conversion that is applied to all products, they want to state what the actual price should be for each product in the other currency. So they have asked me to quote to provide this. I think this owuld be quite a daunting task, so is there a mod that can do it, or if not can anyone point me in the right direction to modify the files.

Thanks

I was just reading up on some currency stuff and came across this article in the ZC Tutorial area. It may be of help to you:

Good luck,

If you simply want all your prices in a different currency, of course Zen Cart can do that out of the box. But I get the impression from your question that you want to have more than one price in more than one currency.

We do that with our greeting cards -- which have a particular price point in US dollars and a different price point in Canadian dollars -- by using the Dual Pricing mod which can be found in Downloads. If you need more than 2 currency/price combinations, that would take some custom work, but at least this mod will show you the direction.

Re: Is it possible to specify actual price in another currency, rather than conversion?

Hi Rob

I'm also very interested in the feature described here (example : "Item A costs 20 USD / 15 EUR").
I tried the Dual Pricing mod. I can now have a retail and a wholesale price, but both of the same currency, and the user has to be logged in in order to access the retail price.
How did you manage to obtain a particular price point in US dollars and a different price point in Canadian dollars ?

Thank you very much

Hi Cedric,

How did you manage to obtain a particular price point in US dollars and a different price point in Canadian dollars ?

Well, it's a matter of definition I suppose. The price shows as dollars in both cases, so a US buyer will assume it's USD and a Canadian buyer will assume it's our dollar. The symbol being the same helps a lot! Our situation is also very simple in that I process all credit card orders off-line, so I can choose at that point which currency to use.

But I think, judging by what you give as an example...

example : "Item A costs 20 USD / 15 EUR"... that you want to show both at once. I don't do that. Any logged-in buyer just sees the one price, appropriate to their location.

I recall seeing other threads around here that do talk about showing more than one price at a time. I'm pretty sure they found a solution, but I'm afraid I don't have a link to the thread.

Re: Is it possible to specify actual price in another currency, rather than conversion?

Thanks for your answer Rob

I've read some other post concerning this issue but didn't find the solution I'm looking for. I'll try to hack the Dual Price mod and if it still does not work I think I'll arrange to install 2 different stores (one only in USD and the other in EUR). I do not have many items in my shop so it might be the quickest solution (but not the nicest one of course).

Pity this mod does not exist, I have had a few of my clients ask me. If thats just a few of my clients, must be thousands world wide.

Re: Is it possible to specify actual price in another currency, rather than conversion?

I agree - I have one product, for example, where the MSRP in USD is $12.00 but the CAD MSRP is $15.95 which is far more than the exchange rate while i don't mind letting the price of another product fluctuate more with the actual exchange.

Re: Is it possible to specify actual price in another currency, rather than conversion?

I think what the original poster wants is being able to set the default currency per item instead of store-wide as it is presently.

Eg. I have a couple of clients who, being based in Australia, set their stores to AUD as default. But sometimes they have to run events where the price is fixed by an agent in the US - so the AUD amount will change over time, not the US one, but for the rest of the store there controlling currency has to be AUD.

It would be great to be able to control item prices by specifying which currency is the default, per item. Therefore, if I create an item and specify its default currency is $US, the other rates will range according to the fixed amount I input at item creation time.
