Setting up downloads - why are they all expired ?

I can't seem to get the downloads feature to work. I added the download attribute to a product and put the zipped file into the downloads folder. Everything seems to be in order. However, when I run a test order, I receive a message that the file download is expired and so I can't download it! What should I do?

Re: Setting up downloads - why are they all expired ?

Under Admin->Catalog->Downloads Manager, what's showing for "days" and "count" ?

When you edit the order in Admin->Customers->Orders, how many days does it say are available?
What's the status of the order?

Re: Setting up downloads - why are they all expired ?

Under Admin->Catalog->Downloads Manager, "days" 10, downloads "1".

Does that mean each customer can download it 1 only time?

Under Admin->Config->Attribute Settings, Number of Downloads Allowed - Per Product" 1.

Is that a limit on total downloads or a limit per customer?

Is that a limit on total downloads or a limit per customer?Per customer, per order.

If you increase that count to a higher number, what happens ? Can you now download the file?

The access permissions for the zipped folder. Should it just be "read only"?

yes - the /download folder should be read-only
the /pub folder should be read-write if using download by redirect

Where is the /pub folder?

P.S. I should mention that I'm trying to have video downloads. That is possible with Zen Cart, right? Is any file type acceptable? (Quicktime, Windows Media, avi, etc.)

Re: Setting up downloads - why are they all expired ?

On a fresh install, the /pub folder should be in your /public_html folder ... just like all the rest of your Zen Cart files. ie: along with your "includes" and "download" and "email" and "admin" etc.

Zen Cart doesn't care what you supply to your customers via download.
However, if you plan to serve media that you expect to play directly in the browser, note that you're limited to each individual customer's browser capabilities. If they can't play a .mov or .avi directly ... then ... well ... you'll end up with challenges.
Thus, most folks opt to ZIP the files ... which gives 2 benefits: 1-smaller files and therefore faster downloads and less bandwidth cost; 2-customer can unzip and then play the media in whatever tool their computer uses to play such media ... rather than depending on the browser to properly select and run the right tool.
